DGO's New Unthread!

Some people should read profiles. After reading them, remember that they aren't necessarily true.

Stopping in on a Friday Evening to say Hi and wish you a wonderful Weekend :rose:
oh and thanks for your Visit.

I read some things here and wonder if people are really as stupid as they appear. I'm not talking about the misuse of homophones this time.

How can you read online, in books and magazines and not notice commas?

I like peas, steaks, apple pie and whiskey.

I like peas , steaks , apple pie and whiskey.

Fortunately I see very few of these errors.

If I am typing quickly, I sometimes miss the space after the comma

I'm back from my epidural. This time my left leg hurt like crazy for about 30 minutes. Now to eat and rest.

I thought about this when I posted to another thread. Have you ever seen someone in public and wondered which Litster they are? It has more to do with personality than with location. (As if everyone here lists their actual location.) Today I looked at the doctor and two of the nurses. The nurses were helping me get on the table face down on my belly. Not an easy task for a PPL (Don't google it, because it's not there.) in the best of circumstances and definitely one with two bad knees and a bad back. The nurse had to clean my butt and prepare me for the injection. When was the last time someone disinfected your ass? (Should I start such a thread?) It could have been an erotic situation; three people looking at my butt and poking me with needles. I started laughing. They're sure I'm crazy.

A couple of days ago I had a conversation on the 50s thread. I mentioned that the hardest part of aging is losing friends. That evening I learned that another classmate had died. We lost one in January, one in February and now Terri in March. These weren't people I'd ever call 'best friends', but they were friends. We had lunch together, talked in the halls and walked home from football games together. If we ran into each other in the drug store, we always had a 'do you remember when' conversations.

Knowing that I'll never run into them again, at least not on this side of the grave, saddens me.

a late Evening Hi and something I picked up on the Way here ;):)

As a teacher, I'd deduct points for every homophone error on a final draft. I did this for years with no improvement. One day I got fed up. I was teaching 7th grade Communication Arts in a new school. Even my best students turned in papers riddled with errors. I decided to drop their grade for each mistake. "These were taught in the 1st grade and mastery was expected by the end of the 2nd. If you're not sure, you can have a friend to help you or ask me before turning in your final copy." Two weeks later I rarely saw a mistake!

You kinda were making an assumption. That they were ever taught those at all. I went to private school and didn't see those till 8th grade. Grammer was not seen as important back then. Even then it was just given as busy work.

I had access to my students' records and knew that most of them were educated in districts that taught homophones. I've been out of high school more than 50 years and back then grammar was important.

Good Evening D G O thank you for your visit have a wonderful and fun Weekend :rose:
