DGO's New Unthread!

I'm not complaining at all. I could, but it does no good. Okay, if you insist. I bought a half pound of braunschweiger. This was a childhood favorite. It was more like a salt lick the braunschweiger. It is nothing like what I had growing up. Okay, vent is over. One more thing to cross off my "it's not the same" list.
Yes I know what you mean;) its the same up here in Canada so many Products that dont taste the same anymore, even Chocolate :(

When my son was about 4 or 5 he loved macaroni and cheese. He begged and pleaded with me to buy Kraft Mac and Cheese in the box. In fact he asked his grandmother, great grandmother, the babysitter.....everyone. Finally I told him that I'd get a box if he had a coupon. Long story short, he hated it. "Mommy, this isn't macaroni and cheese! Do I have to eat it all?" I never had a problem with packaged food again. After that he'd beg for his favorite shape of pasta for the mac and cheese!

I've been going gray since college. If you have all your hair, you're doing OK. :)

One of my firsts students had a few gray strands in the kindergarten. I taught her again in the 2nd and 4th grades and she still had a few. It was strange seeing a child that young gray hair. Fortunately it was hard to find.

Stopping in and leaving some Evening Greetings:)
Hope you had a great Holiday ;)

I know what you mean. That used to be a thing to buy post surgery for protein for me. Not anymore for the same reason.

There are many foods that I no longer buy and all for the same reason - salt! I understand that part of the reason is that it extends shelf life for many products. They wouldn't have to worry about shelf life if the stuff was good. Then it would fly off the shelves.

It isn't just to preserve. Cheaper foods have more salt, because flavorings are expensive. Look at a box of brand-name mac & cheese and compare it to generic. The brand name is high in sodium, but the generic is crazy-high!

I recently told this story, either here or on Facebook. When my son was in the kindergarten he begged for the boxed mac and cheese. He loved mac and cheese but had never had the boxed version. All of his friends talked about it so he assumed it was good. Finally I told him that if he found a coupon or if it was on sale I'd buy it. He got his wish. It was hard for him to eat that first spoonful. That put an end to begging for anything his friends talked about or stuff advertised on television.

I don't mind doing the boxed, but I do add a lot more cheese. Real cheese.Wife picks up the boxes dirt cheap, often for next to nothing. So, adding more cheese is easy.

That's smart. I'll bet it's cheaper than the same amount of plain pasta.

Couldn't tell you what the cost is, but we only do mac & cheese from scratch anymore. Elbow mac is cheap, and we use velveeta for cheese, so it can't cost much. For fancy, we go with egg noodles and shredded parmesan, which is more like a fettuccine alfredo than mac & cheese.

Damn, maybe we really are old. We'd rather talk about food than sex....

Yes, I think we've arrived.

Busy working most of the Time, but on the Wknd I (We) went to the Folks festival here which was fun:)

There's always something going on here, but unlike when I was younger, I have no interest in sitting in the park listening to music when it's 99 outside.
