Somewhat recently, I attempted to get into contact with a local group. Actually, there isn't any local group in the city I live in, but this was the closest one that seemed active. I was 18 at the time, and legal age in BC is 19, so they were forced to reject any joining of their little e-mail list thingy. Their moderator suggested this site, http://www.scarleteen.com/, until I'm old enough to join. Now, my e-mail stated that I was 18 and that I'd been reading and learning about BDSM for quite some time...

Does anyone else think that I'm justified in being offended from being referred to that bloody website? I've seen that information before, when I was 15... that's the kind of stuff my parents taught me.

You can be offended, but as you pointed out. They were forced to. :-/

*nods* It's most likely a canned response that any underage person receives.

I would have done the same, the legalities involved in this are staggering. If you like them and want them to be there for you in a year you will understand.

Scarleteen is pretty basic info, but has an agenda of truth telling rather than fear mongering which is altogether very rare. I used it as a "no get me out of here" exit link.

Some of the kids here in the 16-18 bracket started a peer group for Goth/alt/generalized "queer" and basically SM curious youth - totally peer-led and grassroots. That's all I know about it, really, I don't think it's operational any longer.

I don't blame you for being offended at all. I also don't blame them for their reaction - why would they risk jail time for a teenager they don't even know. Besides aren't you turning 19 pretty quick?

I'm not a regular around these parts... but I thought as a young Canadian I should chime in.

In most of Canada legal drinking age is 18, or 19. 19 in Ontario, and BC, too I assume. However, the age of consent is 14. This is the age which you are considered an adult in sexual matters.

At 18, you should be allowed to (legally) vote, have sex with whom you please, buy erotica, and legally gamble.

From my knowledge of law, which I admit, is more Ontario-centric... you are an adult, and they had no reason to turn you away other than perhaps their own personal policies , within the group.

Should you be upset? Well, I cannot tell you that. Would I be upset? Absolutely.

Hah i'll admit i was a douschebag and lied when i joined certian sites *glances at her join date and coughs* thank god i grew up and no one was ever called out for it. It feels good once you're legal and ok. I still almost feel guilty clicking "enter" on porn sites now even though i'm fully legal.

Though being HSV infected i really fucking wish someone had pointed ME to that site. Being 15 in a catholic school left my sex education to found porn and cosmo. No one ever mentioned hpv/hsv being skin to skin. That side does, so good for them.
I say cheers to them. Sorry dude.

But you still get to be here with us!

The information kids have access to these days.

I didn't even know cum existed until the day it squirted out of my warhead.

Aeroil, I just noticed that you joined this site when you were only 16 back in 2005.

Anyway, various sites and adult groups have their rules for a reason. Lit is/was no exception.

You know, it really is kind of obnoxious when people openly brag about joining before they're 18 and getting away with it.

They should make you start a new account or something.

I thought it was odd that she posted this thread bitching about an adult site not letting her in, so I checked her profile info here. DOB: 02/04/88 yet she joined in Jan '05.

Being a mod on another board here, it always amazes me when these "barely legal" adults have been members to Lit for several years!

I may have empathy for the underaged but I don't want to risk my freedom for them.

Well said, Fury. I'm not delusional enough to say "no one under the age of 18 has ever had sex and/or is curious about their sexuality" and mean it. Nor will I say/admit that "I never engaged in anything sexual under the age of 18. However, similar to what you said I love Lit. I enjoy it a lot. I've been an avid reader of the stories since, I think, they opened. (And since I'm turning 30 this summer, I was legal back in '99. lol)

I think it's wonderful that there are groups, organizations, and even web sites and online resources out there for curious/confused teenagers and youth, but specific adult sites with specific adult disclaimers are not the place for them.

I, for one, do not want to lose this (or similar) site(s) because of minors.

It seems you have just few months to wait !
So be patient and don't make whims to have all now here . You have time !

hugs :rose:

Eh, I hope you weren't refering to me. If you were... i wasne't bragging. I feel guilty about it becasue i like lit and I had/have no desire to get the site in trouble. I'm glad they didn't make me start a new account because for a while one of my poems was on the top 100 most read, which was nice. This perticular thread just happened to be about the desire to join adult sites while underage.

LOL! You are a better person than me.

I can empathize because I rather desperately sought the physical from age 16 on within my strict boundaries.

I never did understand how putting in a date that's your supposed birthdate is going to keep kids out. Or, for that matter, why people are surprised when kids lie about their ages. :rolleyes: Kids aren't stupid, if they want on that bad it's not difficult to change the year you were born.

Hallowed Eve: Aeroil is a guy.

*laughs* I am 19 now , actually, thou may wishest to check mine date of birth a bit more carefully. 19, as of less than a month ago.

I am far from offended that they said no, I'm aware that they had to, it was the reference that bothers/bothered me. It wasn't a disclaimer, it was the moderator who gave me the reference just before he removed me from the discussion list.

They're actually not a website, they are the only BDSM/kinky group anywhere near me(2 hr drive over to the next city). I have not introduced myself again, yet, I'm thinking on it. I question whether or not it will even be worth the effort, since I don't think anyone else in the group even lives nearby.

Heh, I barely even notice when people mistake me for a girl at first anymore gracie, it happens more often than not ^_^

Must be the chocolate on your face. YOU COOKIE THEIF YOU! :mad:

I had thought the issue was being sent to Scarleteen, rather than being underage to join. Is that right, Aeroil? If so, then yeah, Scarleteen is kind of basic. But it probably was a canned response - unless you told them you're already familiar with this stuff, how would they have known?

Right on, Etoile. I don't even remember what I originally said anymore, I'm pretty sure I'd mentioned that I'd read a lot about BDSM (mostly from here ;3) but meh. I'm reserving judgements from when I actually introduce myself, if I decide to.

I prefer the term treasure hunter, gracie.
(nobody will get this reference)

You know Eve, you are right, there are rules....have you checked them recently in regard to posting pics? You might like to take a look at them, especially this part;

"- Legally, we can allow soft nudity, but under current United States law, photographs (does not apply to non-photographic images) posted on this site may not contain "sexually explicit conduct", which the government defines as:

- Actual or simulated:
(A) sexual intercourse, including genital-genital, oral-genital, anal-genital, or oral-anal, whether between persons of the same or opposite sex;
(B) bestiality;
(C) masturbation;
(D) sadistic or masochistic abuse; or
(E) lascivious exhibition of the genitals or pubic area of any person. "

which I believe you have breached seriously here;

Eve's Cunt .

I didn't bother checking past the first post which started out with close ups of your clit, or any of your other pic threads, but you might like to give it some thought if you are going to begin diligently policing the boards as you have been of late and reporting any infringements you find. :rose: Sort of seems suspicious, if not downright strange, that you would do this and yet report others who have not so seriously breached (IMHO as they could be 80yo and saying they are born at another time which makes them underage, but those pics you posted are definately genitals so no getting past that as possibly not what it seems) the rules by posting such explicit material.

I'm gonna nth the "Canned response" response. I don't know, though, of any underage-safe BDSM websites that they could have sent you to. I think most people figure that you're not going to figure that one out till you're way over AoC, despite the fact that it simply isn't true. Especially with the internet, it's so much easier to find information and be able to say "Hey, that could be me" at younger and younger ages...and be able to connect with others who are like them. (Illegally so, yes, but it happens.)

Oh, you are getting those reports too? And here I thought GLBT Chatter was special! ;)

Bit like the pot calling the kettle black only the pot is a lot blacker than the kettle in this situation...rechecked and Eve has at least 3 pic threads of her private bits (one as recent as this year) in various situations including masturbation with a brush which is also a Lit no-no. :rolleyes:
