Derek Chauvin will be sentenced today.

Max he can get is 40. 12.5 is the State recommended sentence for a first timer in the justice system. Double that...and I consider that fair. So 25 years

I'll say 20 - 22 years.

Wouldn't be surprised if he got less. Deserves more.

Side bet: within two hours of the sentencing, CornusKousa will complain about a BLM protester being arrested and not prosecuted.

Only if they riot at the courthouse and threaten the judge on every news network there just to have you and the comrades get on here and say "Never happened....this is just another Alex Jones conspiracy theory." as it plays over and over again on TV's across the US.

There’s hard evidence that your posts on the matter are lies, yet you continue posting them hoping that the rebuttals will stop.

Sticking your fingers in your ears, stamping your feet and screming "NUH UHHHHH!!" is not "hard evidence".

Probably around that much time.

They should throw the book at him, make an example.

He is a vile human being and made cops look bad.

his mother telling us just how much of a wonderful man her son is:

Derek's a thoughtful, kind, honorable, selfless man, apparently, and how a prison sentence will impact him and his family so badly.

not one word of regret for his actions, even stating she believes in his innocence. so, complete denial.

Yup. If Chauvin gets any help today, it won't be from his mom.

Her defense statement of him was weak, and she made no acknowledgent of George Floyd, like it didn't even happen. She doesn't seem very bright.

i think he'll get 15-20, of which he'll only serve 2/3rds inside.

he deserves 30

i understand her desire (as a mother) to show support for her own child... it's natural. but to blatantly ignore, deny the reality of what happened? that speaks to me of her being a way too indulgent parent and thinking her blessed baby could never do any wrong!

Her whole speech was one gigantic unforced error.

She had straightforward goals and the perfect opportunity: acknowledge the pain to Floyd's family & the community and public interest, then impress upon the judge that Chauvin isn't a monster, and an overly-harsh penalty won't heal those wounds.

Not difficult concepts, but she managed to blow it anyway. She sounded dumb.

.
I would predict 35 due to the heinous nature of the crime and the abuse of his position as a law enforcement officer.

Chauvin is going to appeal the guilty verdict and the subsequent sentencing anyway, so it would make sense to sentence him on the high end of the spectrum so he doesn't escape justice.

Edit before the sentencing.: It appears the prosecution is pushing for 30 so that is probably the threshold for the judge as well.

What's also sickening is Floyd's brother's response talking about how he loves Chauvin but doesn't like him.

NO!

I'm so sick of this "You must love and forgive your enemies in order to ease grief", no the fuck you don't.

The bastard murdered his brother, the hell with that forgive and love bullshit.

I don't see a 'heinous nature'. I see a huge mistake, poor judgment and overzealousness. I think he was probably as surprised as anyone else at the death. I see no intent to cause death.

Heinous in the disregard for human life by a police officer, i.e. kneeling on George Floyd's neck for 9 and a half minutes while ignoring pleas from concerned bystanders and suggestions from assisting officers.
