NDAA increases spending by 5% for the Defense Department, including a almost 3% salary increase for our service members.

The House on Thursday voted 316-113 to pass a $777.9 billion defense policy bill that would increase service members’ salary by 2.7 percent and fund 13 additional combat ships, The Wall Street Journal reported.

The proposed National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2022 reflects a 5 percent increase, or approximately $37.5 billion, in defense spending over last year’s enacted budget and a rise of about $25 billion from the president’s proposed budget of $752.9 billion for the Pentagon.

The FY 2022 NDAA included an amendment to add $23.9 billion to the defense budget. Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Ala., the House Armed Services Committee’s ranking member, proposed the amendment, which was approved by the House panel in early September.

13 additional combat ships?! Will the world ever even see another naval battle?! Ships adequate to suppress Somali pirates are probably the most we need any more.

I doubt America will ever be attacked again but it would require a naval battle if someone wanted to start something or if wanted to go start something.

If we're ever attacked by any enemy who poses a serious threat, the war will be nuclear from day one and our Navy ships will never sail out of port.

I don't believe we will ever use nukes, the fact that we'd all lose is just too true. But we REALLY should be looking for the next proxy war and who the players are gonna be.

I suppose by this point we can rule out the Islamic countries including Iran and Pakistan -- they would have nothing to gain, and do not engage in military adventurism outside the Islamic world, with the exception of meddling in Israel-Palestine, a mess we had best stay out of entirely. The only relevant players now are Russia and China.

As we pull out of more and more countries...abandoning those we we signed treaties with...abandoning those that helped us...there are fewer and fewer that will ever trust us again. If 9-11 ever occurred again, who would give us air bases? No one. So having ships are the next alternative to land bases, and they are movable. I don't think we need more...but I have no problem replacing what we have with newer/better
