Portland lost a billion dollars over two years

JAZZ SHAW 9:21 AM on August 07, 2023

Today’s headline may be viewed as shocking and depressing unless you’ve been paying the slightest bit of attention to the news out of Portland, Oregon over the past few years. Based on IRS records, the city lost one billion dollars in municipal revenue between 2020 and 2021, and things didn’t look much better last year either. The underlying reason for this dip in revenue is obvious. Starting with the BLM riots of 2020 and the subsequent wave of homelessness, drug addiction, and crime in the years following, many of those with the ability to do so packed up and moved out. And they took their tax payments with them. More than 14,000 former residents fled the city, and that’s a significant chunk for a town with a population of a little over 600,000.

Nothing more damaging than believing the lies of Democrats and allowing them to govern. They literally destroy all that they touch.

Well, if conservatives would stop talking smack about Portland, then it really would be Utopia.

It's not their fault that they're being framed...

Sad to see the decline but the symptoms were all there as early as the late 1980's.

Pretty much albeit for different reasons.

I had a joint venture going with Intel so when I was in town I'd stay at the downtown Hilton. Lot of really neat stuff going on in Portland at the time. But later in the evening the streets would start to fill up with the young crowd. They were the sons and daughters of senior management and engineers from Intel and Tektronix over in Beaverton and Hillsboro. They were intelligent but lazy. Had too much time on their hands and too much money. A sure prescription for mischief.

This is a TERRIBLE thing to be upset about. People are making money and not spending all day and all night doing it.
