Define "taboo"?

Forgive my ignorance as I'm somewhat new here.

When people on his board refer to "taboo" interests, are they necessarily referring to incest? Of so what not just say incest?

I have an interest in certain sexual fantasies that are definitely considered taboo, but do not involve "family fun". There has been some confusion when I've messaged a few people. Is it me?

I think of taboo as anything that might be considered abnormal or off limits.

Like having sex with your best friend's mom. Student/teacher sex. Incest. Guy having sex with two sisters, or a mom and her daughter. Dad banging the babysitter.

That kinda stuff. Maybe I'm wrong

I think the second post is about correct, anything generally not considered "normal" could be considered taboo.

In my thinking this gets into a lot of the fetish type behavior. Generally the more extreme ones are what I think of as 'taboo'.

Thank you all for your replies. Despite what some here have said though, my inbox provides strong evidence supporting incest as the sole meaning of the word "taboo" as far as this board is concerned!

My best suggestion is that if you mean something specific don't be coy and skirt around it with words like "taboo." If you can't come right out and say it HERE where on Earth can you?
The other thing I've seen people do is to be specific about what does NOT interest them on their profile.

You did ask what it meant, not what the popular interpretation is.

The best suggestion. Taboo can mean a lot of things especially on Lit, it's better to be specific. Or search in Fetish & Sexuality since those threads tend to lean towards types of interests and such.

See, that's exactly the point I made in my OP. Why do people not just say incest? Seriously every personals ad I've seen using the word taboo, the reply to my pm is always always incest. I'm familiar with the dictionary, and was asking here if common usage on this particular site is taboo= incest.

When people ask what I'm into, I don't dance around it . I think my profile is pretty clear about what interests me sexually. I will have to, when I get to a PC, edit to state that incest isn't my angle so thank you for that suggestion. Near impossible to edit from my smartphone.

maybe it's just me, but I think that if you write 'taboo', it might be interpreted as incest simply because people may assume that if it were other taboos you were interested in, then you would say them specifically straight out. maybe incest is still so taboo that it's often left unspoken, so assumptions are made when you are vague like that
