I have written a new story in the Taboo/Incest category. I am trying to find an editor to look it over and help me polish it before I post it. I am especially wanting to find a female editor to provide / guide the perspective that I can't provide for myself. The story is just over 8.6K words long and I have written it as a Word document. It has been 22 years since my last story was published and I want to enter this one in a monthly contest, which I have never done before. I have tried to contact specific editors but after I sent messages to three, Lit wouldn't allow me to send anymore direct messages because I have, apparently, made the maximum number of contacts I am allowed to make.
This story is, I think, pretty much ready to go, however, I have AuDHD and understand that I often am not in sync with the world around me. Specifically, my style of writing is that I can't really plan what I write. I get an idea, I sit down at my computer and just start typing. It might be considered a form of "stream of consciousness" writing style because I honestly don't know when I start writing where things are going to go. I actually surprised myself a few times with the story about where it went. For this story, I simply sat down, spent 4 or 5 hours writing it and it was done. What I have written is technically my first (and only) draft and I know that I benefit from having other eyes look over my work before I hit 'send.'
Please do not take this to mean that the story is an unmanageable mess. When I first gained access to computers in the late 80s, I wrote enough that I kind of rewired my brain. This is even how I write academic and professional papers. What I write pretty much comes out as finished product but it takes me a while before I can look at my work with "fresh eyes." Typically, I will regularly go back to things I have written and reread them, making small changes and corrections as I see them but it can take me months before I am able to to do that.
It may also sound strange but, even at my age and life experiences, I have not had a lot of personal sexual experiences to draw upon for providing a knowledge base to mine for creating realistic stories, so I also benefit from having people who are willing to tell me "this isn't how things happen," or "this doesn't work... try it like this." So the challenge about working with me as an editor is not that I need my work rewritten, I don't. What I need is guidance about the how things work in the world outside of my "cave."
As I said, I think this story works and is pretty much ready for someone to help me polish it however, it did go some places that I wasn't expecting... especially with an epilogue that showed up after I finished the actual story and I would like fresh and unbiased eyes and an outside input.

P.S. -- If I find someone willing to help me edit my work, I have the last story I tried to publish 20 years ago that was rejected by the admins but which they would never communicate with me about to make it pass their muster, no many how I tried to change it or re-submit it. If I can find someone who will work with me, there is that story which would also be in need of outside perspective. That whole thing is why it has been so long since I have published a new story. I'm a Celt. I can hold a grudge for a long time but, in this case, I think two decades is enough time.
