Really fucked some shit up.
I was born eleven years after WW II was over. Well, at least for some people.
The after effects stayed with many Veterans all the rest of their lives.
In the middle eighties I worked with a man that hated the "JAPS" as he called them and made no bones about it.
He had to take medicine for the damage that was not fixable that twenty seven machine gun bullets did to his stomach.
It was not uncommon when I was a kid to see people with one leg or arm or parts of their body missing that was "Lost in the war." Sometimes part of their minds didn't work like they should after they came home. or rather their bodies and most of their minds came back but they left the best parts of themselves on some island in the Pacific.
Almost all volunteered and almost all would have done it again if needed.
Almost all of them are dead now and I will tell you I am a better person for having known them.
I wonder. If we as a nation was called to a sterner test again ...would we fail?
Would we answer the call?
To all veterans of every war...Declared or not.
Thank You!
