Debate about wedding plans: Theme or no?

Themes are goofy. Besides, with a 70's theme all you'll get gift-wise are 15 crockpots and 22 fondue pots.

If you go a theme wedding when you get older what will you think of the dressup as you look back on those pics?

what's worse, they could all be mustard-yellow, or olive-green, circa 1970...

Hellooooooo PD! =)

Ok, questions:

1. In Wacky Waco?

2. Religious or no? Your religious personnage of choice might have something to say about a theme, at least as it relates to the ceremony.

3. Time of year?

4. With something like a 70's theme, you have to understand that you're putting your guests on the spot to come up with their own clothing/hair or whatever way they're going to join in the fun. They're not going to be planning what to wear to your wedding 4-6 months in advance like y'all are.

5. If cost is a factor (isn't it always?) go for something outside. Of course, that also has it's drawbacks.

6. Do you really wanna wear a powder blue ruffled tux shirt?

7. Does Nikepoo have a mental dream of what she wants her wedding dress to look like? If so, build from there.

That's Harvest Gold and Avocado Green to you, sweetcheeks. ;)

Honestly? I think that if you're aiming to make things fun for the guests, then you should make the reception a blowout or something. I think that my choosing a theme you're supposing that all of the guests will find it fun, when they might just think it's hokey, or might find it uncomfortable. I think there are better ways to make your wedding fun than to make it a theme party. The wedding itself is a ceremony, a symbol of commitment. The reception is the party. :) That being said, I think you should do what you and the bride want.

Nora is so smart! :D

Sorry Powr, I have to make fun. My fiance would think an idea like a 70s themed wedding was a wonderful idea. *shudder* If I don't make fun, I have to face the fact that it could be my own reality.

...besides...I have decided on one of two ways to go...Leather, with the "gang bang bitches" as my attendants, or Wiccan with skyclad attendants. :D

i'll see your harvest gold and avocado green, and raise you a pumpkin orange...

:D

I'd just suggest that whatever you chose, theme or not, make sure your both completely comfortable with it. It's a wonderful day, that will hold some of your best memories.
Personal opinion, I probably wouldn't do a theme like that, but that's just me.. :)

Honestly, PD? Since I assume I'll be invited to the wedding (I damned well better be! *grumbles*) my gut reaction would be, "oh goody. I'm invited to a wedding. And I have to buy special clothes for it, in addition to a gift. And there will be enforced merriment. Oy. Kill me."

But that's me.

Oh God! I just though of the poor bridesmaids at this wedding. Please! For God's sake think of the bridesmaids!!

I have to think that a themed wedding would cost more, unless you are considering the number that won't attend because of the requirements of the theme.

Suppose you would want every groomsman to wear bell-bottoms, or carry tommy guns, or some other theme-related accessory. You should be prepared to pony up for the added expense. And all participants should be provided with theme accessories so nobody is left outside of the theme (the embarrassment issue). This would include ushers, coffee servers, musicians, the works.

Ok, make a theme requirement a tommy gun and I'm so there! :D

Guns...always great at a wedding. But being in Texas, I'm sure 30% of the room will have one anyway :)

Having extra toys and knick knacks can be handled. It woul djust all depend on what we decide to go with. remember, it's not a big deal that it be 70's. I'm just fishing around for other neat ideas.

<<---also, look over there <<<

Just got me an AV.

Spiffy av!

Ok, if you're set on a theme, make it something that doesn't require audience participation. It puts people on the spot.

I kinda like the groucho glasses, but since I already look like that...

I don't know Power. A wedding is a serious occassion and while the reception can be fun I don't think I would like a themed/costume part for a reception.... after all people come to wish you well with the rest of your lives together.... most people, especially the older people with lots of money for the good gifts/generous checks are generally a little more traditional I have found.

How about a compromise... why not a themed engagement party or themed bride/groom shower?... People are more ready to kick back and have some fun there...Just an idea
