When all freinds and family have a chance to spend quality time together, let us not forget the sacrifices of those that have gone before us. To the service members of the past & present wars, to the families left behind during deployments & those left forever when their loved ones make the ultimate sacrifice. To the men & women who lost their innocence on teh battlefield & the children left without a parent. To the prisioners of war, the MIA and the concentration camp survivors, and those who did not survive. Civilians who are killed, families torn apart. This weekend is in remberance of you.

I may hope for peace & wish for harmony. I may not understand the world. But you are not forgotten. Each one of you who lives in someones memory is alive in someone and remembered.

To my WWII army (won't hold it against you) grandfather.....Thank you for being a stubborn old irish and plucking my grandmother cradle-robber-style by marrying someone 14 years younger then you to have 7.5 kids with.

Even in Vietnam, Guard/Reserve units were assigned to the war zone and died. There was no passes for those guys just because they were in a reserve component. Because you're against the war doesn't mean you're an asshole who ignores soldiers or the holiday. There are soldiers who are against the war, soldiers families, and patriots. Thought about my stepfather who died from untreated PTSD and alcohol, apathy and denial. From the last war based on a line of bullshit people believed based on some kernel of justifiable paranoia, and a smaller one. 42 and in the dirt.

They don't have to think that, I think that. My dad didn't think that, but I looked at him and I KNEW that, with moral certainty unlike anything I've ever felt.
