Hmm...I'm wondering if a cooler would be an option. How long do you think the ice would last?

I need some cold coca cola dammit!!! I'm addicted, I'll admit it.

I'm also hungry and dry cereal isn't the greatest thing.

Options? Anyone? Anyone?

If it's a large cooler and you fill it with ice/drain the water and refill once a day, you can store refrigerator items in it as long as you need to. Milk, eggs, cokes, meat, it will be fine. Just keep the lid tightly closed and refill the ice.

Too bad you can't consolidate kitchens with no-oven April:(

Canned milk?

I'm a coca cola addict myself, but room temperature doesn't interfere with my enjoyment of it anymore.

ice will probably last a matter of hours in a cooler.

Have you thought about one of those cheap little cubic refrigerators? Once you have a real one in your kitchen again you can move the new one to your bedside for refreshment service during those long love-making sessions or for times when you're sick. Is that an adequate rationalization for something you want to do?

Long love-making or masturbation sessions? I'm not known for inviting men to my bed, I usually kiss them at the door downstairs. I'm waiting for the right man. :D I wish he'd hurry up and get here...my hormones don't know how to wait patiently.

Even so, no point in dehydrating.:p

& it gives you those popsicle options;) :D

OUCH! OUCH! OUCH! *crossing legs* Noooooooooooooooo...that sounds way painful.
Why take something so umm, well, err...hot and then add something freezing?

When I first bought my condo the fridge worked for a day and then I had to wait three weeks for the previous owners to get me another one. During that time I used a cooler with lots and lots and lots of ice. I mostly had to eat out because the cooler never made it cold enough to keep food good!! Just my experience!! :D

Have you considered throwing a big "come and eat all the food from my fridge before it all goes bad" party?

A styrofoam cooler will need the ice replaced about every 16-24 hours as long as you keep it tightly closed. A good quality plastic cooler will only need re-iced about every 24-36 hours. The temperature of the house will make a big difference in how long the ice lasts.

I would suggest a cheap styrofoam cooler (or two) kept on the back porch where the temperature is cold enough to make the ice last. Put a layer of ice in the bottom, and then line it with a plastic trash bag to keep the food dry. At this time of year in Oregon, you probably won't need very much ice at all to keep food in a cooler cold outside.

(For Frozen foods, use a small block of dry ice in a styrofoam cooler on the back porch. -- Do NOT keep the dry ice cooler in the house!)

Generally a cooler will work, and if you have a patio, keeping it out there can help as well. We were lucky enough to have our old commercial freezer downstairs when our fridge quit working. Most of the time it holds meat bought in bulk, several manuscripts, and all of our important documents, but for entertaining, it's great. You can make alot of food in advance and store it. You might want to consider that, or the "college model" fridge.

Wow, PB! And i was feeling kinda sorry for myself cuz i went without a microwave for a couple weeks.
;)

runnin water

Fill the sink or tub with water and set the faucet so it match the overflow. Its work for beer so it suppose to for the think you drink.
In standing water, add salt to ice. Its going to melt slower

YUMMY!!! :D I really don't mind not having the fridge. Water works just fine for something cold to drink.

Hi fives PB, concerning the Coke, I'm drinking from an actual GLASS bottle of Coke, myself.

Don't have any suggestions on how to keep it cool, from the other one already here, but In Guatemala we have a powdered milk that beleive it or not, actually tastes VERY good, if it's done right. You wouldn't even know it's powdered, unless you saw the tin can it comes in. I knw there are ones here in the U.S. too, but for some reason, this is better to me. Whenever I go back down there, I bring back two 5lb tins of it, and it comes in real handy when we run out of milk at the house. Just a thought though.

I'm lactose intollerant...I can only drink "Lactaid" milk or I get sick. What a bummer. It's only a couple more days. I'll live.
