Why?

Starred: Liam Neeson (AA nominee) before everyone knew who he was. Frances McDormand (AA winner) co-starred. Larry Drake broke out from playing a retarded fetch-it boy as one of the sickest and funniest villains in recent memory.

Directed: Sam Raimi's (Spiderman, Evil Dead) direction is well-paced and exciting to the core.

Suprise: In almost every comic book hero movie there's rarely a suprise to be experienced. DARKMAN came out of left field, took itself (kinda) seriously, but was fun for all the right reasons.
On some level the movie's logic made much more sense than other MAN turned hero like Batman (why is he so strong if he's mortal?) or Spiderman (why doesn't he pick up some of the other less savory habits of a spider, much like Jeff Goldblum in THE FLY?)

i prefer "blankman" with damon wayans that was a goofy but funny movie

Never saw Darman. But, I think Batman is the best superhero movie, ever. Jack Nicholson RULES!!!!!!!!!!!

Darkman was good but Spiderman kicks ass!

I enjoyed Spiderman, but Darkman was better acted and directed. And quite honestly, Darkman stuck with me. Spiderman was really no different than any other movie franchise (Superman or Batman).

Did I mention that Danny Elfman did Darkman's soundtrack.

Nicholson is cool. But you must see "Darkman." Larry Drake's cigar chomping villain is killer.

I've ALWAYS meant to watch it. Next time I'm at the video store, I'll rent it.

Darkman was not in the super-hero mold though. His spine was disconnected and he may have been pain free and bent on revenge, but he did not have any super powers.

Raimi is one of the best directors workign today, versatile but puts his stamp on each film.

I have to try to toss in "The Shadow".

Alec Baldwin was perfect for the part. John Lone was a truly classic villain. Penelope Ann MIller was quirky and sexy and capable. Sir Ian McKellan played a supporting role.

The movie was faithful to the old radio plays.

The best part was the cinematography. The whole movie was shot with "The Shadow" in mind. There were incredible tricks of light and color along with optical illusions that were stunning. :)

Danny Elfman does everyone's soundtrack.

Batman is at the peak of physical fitness – even if the actor playing him isn't. I'm not quite certain what spider attributes you are looking for.

I think that X-men was better than Darkman. I think DareDevil will be better than Darkman.

i liked the movie alot, didnt recongnize him as QuiGon jin (spelling?)

I saw both in the threatre and X-men wasn't all that good. But then again I've never read an entire X-men comic book and I don't think I was the intended audience (being over 25).

"The Shadow" was interesting but convoluted. I do agree that it was faithful to the radio show (I own the mini-box set), but I'm not sure if that's a good thing in a movie.

Darkman was ok...

but Superman, Batman, & Spiderman were more true to form to their comic book roots.

Have to wait and see how the HULK & DAREDEVIL movies turn out.

X-Men could of been longer somewhat and a little more in depth, but it was decent, and also couldnt get used to the fact of Wolverine getting whooped on like a illigetimate(sp?) step child

Of the three, I'll take the first Superman. It had the best story and acting (Reeves and Hackman).

Batman tried to beat you over the head with its effects and effects don't do shit for me if the story sucks. Can anyone even remember what the first Batman was about anyway?

I'm just waiting for the adaptation of Frank Miller's Batman: Year One, to be directed by Darren Aronofsky. If it stays true to the graphic novel, Batman will never actually don the cape and get-up. It's all about his origins as a schizophrenic vigilante.

Can't wait for an R rated Batman movie. *Drools on keyboard*

Aronofsky is gonna do one? I'm in.
