He's has the potential to become one of my favourite authors.

Though the first book I read was his best to me (Da Vinci Code), I know realize he really pulls it off everytime.

I read 'Angels&Demons' after that and loved it even though he kinda fucked up the ending, which was a tad out of this world.

I'm now right into the first half of 'Deception Point' and it's superb. Might turn out not to be as good as 'DaVinci' but I mean name an author who is able to start with three gloriously good books.

His books might never win a prize or be known as great literature but he certainly knows how to write a good, intelligent thriller. And in terms of suspense he is one of the best, if not THE best author.

Different strokes for different folks. Enjoy.

"Digital Fortress" and "Deception Point" aren't as good as the other two, IMO, but still good reads. Since I read those last, I think I was getting a bit tired of the "24-hrs." conceit. Plus, they both deal with the modern, not historical.

We like Dan Brown, but have to admit that we're hooked on James Patterson, Patricia Cornwell & John Sandford. We also like Iris Johansen's thriller's. Face of Deception was a really good read. Yup, we qualify as book-worms. We just got "Trace" and are eagerly reading it.

Swedish athlete Mikael Ljungberg, olympic gold medalist in wrestling in Sydney 2000, was found dead after comitting suicide earlier this week. This came totally out of the blue for fans and the public in general, because it seemed like he was on top of the world in all aspects. The truth was severe depression, apparently worse than any meds could help him with, and the tragedy was a fact.

Now, what does that have to do with this thread? Well... today I went by the local grocery store, and saw the headlines of the tabloids. They shrieked out, in big letters, that the reason he killed himself was that The DaVinci Code had freaked him out.

Let's just say that I don't exactly take what those rags write for face value. And when I actually read the article, it had just a brief passing mention.

But it fascinates me that a run-of-the-mill mystery/adventure novel can become such a big attention bat to wave around. Come on, it's just a book. And the keg of mysticism that he tapped into is stuff that I have read other books about, read popular science articles, seen documentaries on Discover Channel, and even played video games revolving around.

Still, it was good fun for a stretch on the lawn in the summer sun. I'll probably read his next.

Egg-sack-lee. My point was that the media used it as an attention drawer for a weird headline. It probably sold lots of ads.

Yeah, modern media is pretty sick and immoral.

And the stupid books, probably. Too many stupid people.

Did you know CIA is using psychic people to do 'remote' spying? No wonder GWB thought there were WMD in Iraq.

Thank goodness I'm not an American. I'd be too embarrassed. . .

And we made it again, turning this thread into a political issue....
