Starbucks that had drive-thrus before still have them open, just at reduced hours. You can also have the lattes delivered through Door Dash I believe. Me, I just tell the kid I ordered for the house and he drives up.

Interesting. The small store near me is open, I think mostly due to the fact it's used by city, county, and state police, firemen, nurses, and such.

My son the barista has said it could be from lack of people wanting to work at the store BEFORE the virus, could be that yes, the clientele is older, or there wasn't enough overall business to warrant them staying open.

ok, the age range of our positive cases is 8 - 107. no the 107 isn't a typo. we have a couple cases in those over 100. They are doing ok, I guess. I mean I don't give them great odds of surviving the day, but I didn't give them great odds of surviving the day for the past 30 years. they have all been positive for over a week. one might be classified as recovered by now. we have had two deaths, both elderly women.
average age of infection is 74.
gender breakdown 84% female 16% male. yeah, that is odd. I think nationwide the breakdown is 52% women 48% men, and florida is running 50/50. hum, why the lower number of men in my county?
could it be that women have a lower personal space requirement then men in general. Maybe that explains the national, but that doesn't really explain that variance.
do we have a gender disparity in general? well, actually, we do. 56% men and 44% women. We have more men living here yet way less men testing positive.
life expectancy in my area averages 74 for men and 79 for women, which is 2 years less than the national average. That is due to a higher rate of obesity, nicotine, alcohol, lower seat belt usage, and less medical care. Are the men just not living long enough to have age related immune system weakening. Well nationwide, cases in those over 74 only account for 15%. 82% are adults below 74 and the 20 to 44 is the highest bracket.
could it be we simply aren't testing men. Maybe, they don't release the demographics on tests by gender by county. As a whole, historically, we aren't doctor people. maybe the men are even worse about that. it would not surprise me. However, according to the health department, 75% of adult men in my county saw a doctor in the past year, a huge jump from a decade ago and not much below the rate of women, which also jumped a lot in the past decade. Maybe we are doctor people now. Plus, they say covid symptoms hit men harder so wouldn't there be more women not getting testing because they are more likely to be less sick.
so yeah, wtf? why such a disparity. What do our men do or not do that isn't mirrored by our women or most of america?
um, well 28% of our adults use chewing tobacco and less than .1 percent of women here, so more than half of our men are walking around with tobacco in their mouths most of the time. oh and beer. 25% are heavy drinkers.
hum what else? low amount of professional men. most men are blue collar. A lot in mechanical and electrical trades, construction, natural resource mining, manufacturing, lawn etc. In theory, maybe the harshness of the conditions causes them to wear masks, but in reality, almost never. Maybe given their hands are usually dirty, they have developed a habit of not touching their faces. That I could totally believe, except how do they get the tobacco in their mouths?
Yeah, this is what I am pondering today. why do women in my county reflect state trends and percentages but men are not. This trend is also reflected in another nearby rural counties though not as severe, like a 35/65 gender breakdown for those. I don't know, I think it is interesting.

I’m starting to hear more and more about trends, the spread, immunity and recovery rates, etc. One of the key factors is of course the testing. First, it’s been sporadic and not enough testing has been done. Second, we now know that many people most likely were infected previously before COVID-19 was on everyone’s radar and this skews numbers. And of course there are various tests available and we do not have a true standard yet by which to judge the most accurate method. It’s possible that the numbers are skewed in various areas due to inconsistent testing.
Now if you’ll excuse me, it’s time for me to drink my next round of Lysol disinfectant.

yeah they are showing more women get tested than men like 56/44, but less women test positive than men, and overall positive results are like 52/48 in favor of women. Women getting tested more without having it does not surprise me. women are more likely to have health anxiety and be seeking out testing facilities without having many indications. and it looks like men account for more hospitalizations here too a a 54%/46%. my area is still a stark contrast comparatively.
indeed, very true, but still most are seeing rates between 50/50 to 60/40, much less striking like 85/15. Drive 20 miles in most any direction and they are between 50/50 and 60/40 like everyone else.
I am sure there is a simple reason, initially I assumed men simply weren't getting tested and just "manning up", seemed the obvious, but that seems to be false. Well, again some variation but not like that. probably the combination of lower testing and dirty jobs. They are always showering as soon as they get home, they probably washing their hands more often using harsh manly hand soap, and have long had the habit of not touching their face. I just saw it and thought it was interesting as it stuck out like a sore thumb on the state status.

These numbers could be swayed more towards women due to them having most of the healthcare (whether professional or familiar) jobs.
