My Friday will be very happy! I took today off, giving myself a four day weekend. I’m at a sci-fi/fantasy convention with like minded geeks, and I’ll be seeing one of my partners tonight. Life is good. And I got to see more of your lovely, silly self!
 
So my first and maybe or maybe not only ramble of the day. Last night, I was asked how I feel about firefighters. My response was basically that I am an American women, I am literally watching Chicago Fire right now, deciding who I’d want to screw more, Matt or Kelly. (fyi, the answer is both, at the same time, please)

Ever since I can remember firefighters seems to be the career most sexualized by women (and gay men). From our media with Code Red, Third Watch, Chicago Fire, Station 19, to the calendars. Oh yes, the calendars, seems they have been around forever, though I do believe the first marketing was to gay men and not women, but they seem to have evolved.

So now why is firefighter the most eroticized job by women. I guess there is the assumption of athleticism. But no matter how many times I set my stove on fire hoping for the men in the calendar, the men who come do not look like them. They are average men. Forty year old Billy Bob Burns with his beer belly eating a burger, just like me. The young volunteer fire geek and all that entails. And of course, these are very physically capable completely fuckable men, but just not the perfection media has led me to believe. Is it their adrenaline junkie personality? Ok, I must say I do find that highly attractive. Though truth is, I believe the risk of the firefighter is not as high as I would assume. I mean, me, run into a burning building, fuck that. But again, these are physically capable men, with a large amount of training, expensive gear, people who have their six, technology watching and tracking. The risk has definitely been substantial lowered compared to fisherman, loggers, roofers, farmers, taxi cab drivers, and even the linesmen that I work with every day. I don’t think the biggest issue for firemen is how to get past the self-preservation instinct. I suspect the biggest issue is how to get past what they didn’t expect when signing up. What happened before they even arrived. What they have to stand and watch because it is simply to dangerous to be cleared to go in. Not saying it isn’t a dangerous job, it totally is, but I don’t think the risk is as high as us laypeople think in our heads. I think they have gotten their shit together, have the support systems, training, and devices to substantial mitigate it to the point that the physical risk is likely less that the emotional toll.

Anyway, now I sit here wondering when and how the career of the fireman became so romanticized and eroticized that it is now a core marketing tactic for women across America?

Also wondering if it is like that everywhere, like is there a housewife in India and a housewife in China fantasizing about banging a local fireman or two or more right at this moment (hey if you are going to fantasize, go big, right) or is it just America?
