9-year-old boy with stage 4 cystic fibrosis attempts to break Guinness World Record

Dalton Dingus is a 9-year-old boy from Salyersville, KY, living with stage 4 cystic fibrosis.

He has been sent home because there is nothing else doctors can do. They have only given him a couple of weeks to live. He told his mom he is ready to go because he is tired. He wants to beat the Guinness World Record for the most Christmas Cards. The record is 35,000.

You can help Dalton break the record by sending him a card at the following address:

Just a card, a 45 cent stamp, and a little of your time to make his Christmas wish come true.

I was dubious, but apparently it's kosher. I'll post one in the morning.

Lex18, the NBC local affiliate in Lexington, Kentucky, posted this item yesterday:

A Magoffin County boy is breaking records while fighting for his life. Dalton Dingus is fighting cystic fibrosis, a lung disease, and the nine-year-old has also been trying to set a new Guinness World Record for receiving the most Christmas cards. He passed the record of 35,000 cards yesterday, but he wants to make the record untouchable. "He wants to open all the boxes," says his mom, Jessica Dingus...

A vid report from the same news folks says he received over 6,000 cards alone on Monday...

...which put him over the record.

And the poor kids last name is freaking DINGUS? Dalton Dingus? Gahh, that poor poor child. I bet he got a hard time at school too. No justice in the world. Now keep this damn thread up top folks, he deserves it.

I can't even begin to try to imagine what Dalton, and his parents are going through! I will send him a card out today. Thank you Eyer for posting this, and helping to make his Wish come true!

From the above link:

Jamie Panas, public relations manager for Guinness World Records, wrote in an email that the organization does not currently monitor records for receipt of the most Christmas cards. However, in 1992, the last time Guinness had a Christmas card category, Jarrod Booth of British Columbia, Canada, had a collection of 205,120 in February 1990.

Guinness has been in contact with Jessica Dingus and is interested in reopening a category should they receive a formal registration, Panas wrote.

Another 100,000 and there'd be no question at all...
