Do you think people who "catfish" others on Lit should be publicly outed?

I don't understand the question. I have no idea what it means to catfish someone.

Basically, as long as whatever threads/posts conform to the Lit rulz and the Mods are okay with it, knock yourself out. Supposedly it is a free speech site and all.

I don't care either way. It seems that there are some vultures circling who are living vicariously through the drama and it's becoming more about them, their manufactured outrage and their passive aggressive way of making themselves feel important by dropping hints that they know the identity of the person in order to exclude people outside of their little charmed circle..

Personally, I've seen people do much worse on here and it seems to be being seen as somehow worse because women have been duped in this way...It appears to happen far more frequently to men and do you know what? They've been laughed at, ridiculed and told to type with their big head instead of their little one...it's lit, it's not real life, I feel sorry for the people taken in but it's become more about perpetuating the drama now by the resident llamas than it is about the hurt caused to a very few

A catfish is someone who pretends to be someone they're not using Facebook or other social media to create false identities, particularly to pursue deceptive online romances.

Google it. I have been doing it to you for years.

Fuck, Manti Te'o, that was you? Damn. I thought you were real. You mother fucker. And to think I shared a cock picture with you. You mean those tits weren't yours? Whose were they?

Did you hear how Dave got totally catfished last month?! The fox he thought he was talking to turned out to be a pervy guy from San Diego!

or

I was really falling for that gorgeous gal on Facebook, but she turned out to be a catfish.

YEEEESSSSS!!! This, exactly! I am far more irritated with the people who picked this up and made it all about how they were the arbiters of what is acceptable Lit behavior. Last time I looked, narcissism is not that admirable a trait, either.

can we shoot'em?

Are you asking for the ability or for retaliation free permission?
The first is entirely on whoever. If you have the firearm, proximity and the proper mental/emotional state is not up to anyone except the potential perpetrator.
The second is a matter of law, and I'm not sure you'd be able to justify such an act.

I'm not giving permission for anyone to commit any crime. That ain't my job.

I voted 'Other' having had a few conversations with Litsters.
It may depend on the circumstances, I think.
Yes a public 'outing' may warn others, but it also risks compounding trauma for the victims.
There may also be a complex situation belied by the tabloid headline and consequential rumor mongering..
In short, I don't think there is an easy answer to this.
I'll repeat my plea from the other thread - please just play nice, everyone! :)

Nicely said, George.

Let's face it, it's far too easy to 'alt' on here. (And yes, I have an alt, she's called BattleBitch... SimoneLisbon and I share her to make the responsibilities of the Battle of the Sexes game easier.)

Karma is a bitch operating in PMS mode 24/7.
