Is there a reason that I can't cut/paste things from threads here? A little while ago I had my hard drive wiped so I've had to take some time to learn how some new things work. Did I loose something?

if by things you mean text, i think it's particular to your machine: i just cut & pasted that text out of your post and it works fine for me. what system, OS & browser are you running? is it at all possible that you're having a mouse or keyboard problem?

Actually,

You can cut something from someone else's posts.
But, you can COPY and paste with no problem.

It is probably time to open up my keyboard again.

The last time I did there was enough cat hair to make a vest for either of the kitties.

Maybe I'm doing it the wrong way. I highlight the text that I want to cut, hit Control C, go to the destination and hit Control V. It works in other apps and forums, just not here. I was wondering if there was a one way door at the entrance to this off-ramp of the super highway.

I hope this doesn't come off as condescending (not exactly sure if you're not getting anything or getting the wrong results)...
Control C is Copy (when you want to reproduce the text in another place)
Control X is Cut (when you want to move the text)
Control V is Paste

If you think it might be your keyboard, in the meantime you can highlight and execute the commands in the Edit menu of your browser or program (like Microsoft Word, Notepad, etc.).

treeview: i dig users who use keyboard shortcuts. :> yeah, that's basically it. while erika's technically correct, i never use ctl-x. i also get a bit less precise, referring to ctl-c & ctl-v as cut & paste, not copy & paste.

definitely sounds like a cat hair problem. :>

No no, I have the same problem as this guy. Being a constant keystroker, and not a big fan of the mouse (what happens when you learned on DOS) I've noticed a similar thing happening when I try to copy from some websites. Ive found that the only way to make it work is by using the mouse and right click->selecting copy.

Sorry, I don't have an answer for you, just thought I'd let you know you weren't alone. Maybe its something to do with browser? I use Avant
