Cussing & Discussing Robert Heinlein's Works

The Book Quiz

<<I'm a "The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress" kind of girl. At least according to the quiz.>>

I too took this quiz and found that I am Moon is a Harsh Mistress" guy. Make sense as freedom is my most important value. (Making love to beautiful and independant women is my second value!) :D

I like to think of Heinlein as Mark Twain of the 20th century. Their stories have a lot in common, just on different planets. I didn't even't read him until I was 27!

Ignorance is nothing shameful.

Choosing to remain Ignorant is Shameful!

well...if you believe 1984's credo, then Ignorance is Strength so...

*wonders what would happen if Orwell and Hienlein wrote a book together...or went to the pub together...or got in a fight...or anything...*

Hello:

I am new to this thread and completely daunted by the fact that it is as long as it is.

....

-drexfurlow

you STARTED with number of the beast? *jaw drop* brave man... i had read a bunch of his earlier books before that one, and i was STILL confused by who a lot of the characters were.

sadly..my version had no pictures at all, so i missed out on whatever you and khan-e are talking about.

still, welcome to the club, and here's to making it last!

Here's a minor bit of geekdom re:Heinlein, for what it is worth. i have an old Avalon Hill game of Starship Troopers from the 70's still in the shrink wrap.

Just waiting to see if it is one day worth something.

check it out on ebay, it's probably worth a lot to the right people. my uncle, who introduced me to heinlein, told be about that game. i also know of a starship troopers RPG (based on the book, not the movie). i wasn't around when the book was published, but if my uncle is to be believe, then it made a huge impact...it was everywhere

You say the cutest things!;) :p :D

I've been a lurker of the Incest is Best thread and this one for some time now. I'm actually reading it from start to finish (on page 143 now).

I also took that quiz and turned out to be a "Moon is a Harsh Mistress" kind of guy, and I tend to agree. I can see myself partaking in a revolution, no matter the role I play. Libertarian values and all that.

Like drexfurlow, "Number of the Beast" was the first Heinlein book I read. It was a gift to me when I was in the hospital some 12(?) years ago. Before that time, I had never heard of him or his books. The dialogue blew me away. The part where Zeb and Hilda end up flagrante delicto almost caused me to lose my cookies. Very intense!

Since then, I have religiously hunted down most of his other books. Some time after I had read many of them, I went back and read "Number..." again and enjoyed it even more. I've probably done this at least three times now (reread everything).

When I find the time, I'll find the list of his books that I do not own (all of which are out of print, I think).

I agree with Khan-e when she said that Puppetmasters and Starship Troopers (the movies) were exceedingly bad, but then again, when was the last time any book was made into a decent movie? I'm hard-pressed to name any.

By the way Khan-e, your sexuality and openness are incredibly exciting. You're too damn hot, and I wish you were either my relative or my neighbor... or for that matter, both. :) If I'm going to make wishes, why not go for broke, for Pete's sake.

Welcome to the club, Natty! Now take a number and get in the line. Since we're Heinlein fans, we insists ladies go first at the might Khan-e (otherwise known as "Mama Maureen Long"). Beside, a girlie show can only help us pleasure the girls all the better to their lasting grins. ;)

My first Heinlein novel

The first book I read was "Stranger in a Strange Land", and it was one of the most moving and beautiful magical realism novels done in fable mode with Mark Twain twists. I have the whole movie storyboarded in my head.

The second novel which is one of the most important in my life is "Time Enough for Love". I thought it was one of the best titles made, and most confident. I love Lazarus Long and his beautiful, intensely human (in godlike way) family.

Thank you very much.

I honestly don't remember the first Heinlein novel I read. It seems I have been reading them all my life. I was raised on his juveniles. At about the age of 12 or 13 I read "Friday". It was definitely "adult" reading. I then began to read any of Heinlein's books I could find. His writings helped develop my values during my critical teen years.

Lucky you! of course it may has helped you become an fine, upright lady that you are today. You're kind enough to spread your legs to other fine ladies and gentlemen with lust in their hearts. May your first children be twin named Laz and Lor! (of course, I'll be happy to be the papa) :D

I got my birthday present today in the mail: Robert A. Heinlein: A reader's Companion. Did you know he wrote a film treatment for..."Abbott and Costello Move to the Moon"???? Co-written with one Ben L. Babb in 1950. It was a 3 pages treatment and seem to be an insider joke on himself as unworldly author lost in the wilds of Hollywood.

Back from the Worm-Hole

Hey all, it's Pilgrim again!

I just got back from my Glory Road with a beautiful empress and that ugly toad of a man (but he have good heart). I see this thread has been quiet for some time. Any new Heinlein fans show up lately? Any new thoughts on the master's stories?

Also, what would he think about the marriage storm in GOP party today?

Heinlein and Battlestar Galactica (the new one)

Has anybody seen SciFi's Battlestar Galactica which will soon have its third season this October? The strong themes of survival, mysterious Lords of Kobal, Cylons as evolutionary children of humanity, miltary life, importance of hope and family reminds me a LOT of many of Heinlein's work. Like Starship Troopers, Friday, Citzen of the Galxery.

What are your thoughts?
