Who sent me an e-mail from CrushMaster? It's some web site that promises to tell me who sent me a secret crush, if I first give them a bunch of "guesses" (i.e. e-mail addresses of other people). I appreciate the sentiment, but now I'm on some spam list somewhere, and they're asking me to name names. I feel like I've just been called before the House Un-American Activities Committee.

Anyone else get this?

I know you know this, DCL, but for the sake of those who might not, there will always be a link at the bottom of irritating email msgs like the one DCL got that will tell you how to unsub from the list. In some cases, you'll have to perform email gymnastics for a couple weeks to manage the unsub, but persistence pays in this game.

Yeh. I hate those kinda places too, DCL.

those are pretty bad

I tried getting rid of that stuff with a filter....unsuccessfully of course...

either delete it as soon as you see it or follow through with the ever-so-fun course of unsubscribing. In which case, they'll probablly tell you that they can't tell you your cush's name or something. Unless you stay on and support their site by visiting lots of sponsors...

Nobody has to have a crush on you to get this. They buy your name and hope you will click on all of their sponsers trying to find out who it is. I have tried for 2 months now to unsubscribe and still havent got off.

But I did get the same message on my other email accounts. Either someone really likes me,or they do the spam thing.

That is probably the most stupid thing I have seen in my life.... all it is is a scam for you to go onto the sites that they advertise so that you spend money with them.

The final kick in the ass is when they send the emails saying you have been "successfully unsubscribed" and thanking you for your business!

It never stops.

This comes my way every couple of months.. just not responding seems to do the trick for me.

Slightly off-topic..

But since we're bitching about the unsub function in lists, how do I get it so that Lit doesn't send me e-mail notices whenever someone posts to a thread I've subscribed to? I've gone through User CP->Edit Options and selected 'No' for just about everything pertaining to mailings.. Please help! My mailbox is as flooded as a prom queen's pussy is with cum!

Gridiron,

Go to control panel. It will show you a list of threads you are subscribed to. You can unsubscribe to them there. Also, when replying to a thread, there is a box you can uncheck for email notification.

Ruby

p.s. I hate crushmaster too.

Thanks for the info, all. I have been curious as to what crazy had a crush on me... considering I'm never so lucky.

This explains the sudden influx of SPAM.

Ok, this is how Crush Master works:

They get people through ads and what not. Usually mostly high schoolers, and junior high kids.

Those kids enter in email addresses of the people they have a crush on.

Crush master emails those people, inviting them to come find out who it is. In order to find out who it is, you have to enter in email addresses yourself. You have to enter in like 5 before you even get a clue (unless, hypothetically you are right on one of those 5). They keep those addresses, and send them the same message you got. So, people supply those addy's to them, thruogh means of temptin you with forbidden fruit. I mean who doesn't want to know who has a crush on them?

The first time I got one, I filled it out. I can't believe I was that stupid.
