At about 10:45 p.m., the night a bust, David was going to take the bus back home.

“Literally at that moment a bunch of guys came out of the courthouse and ran
into the street,” said David. “I was in the park and watched these guys body blast
the protestors.

“I walked over and stood there in the street” he said. “I wanted to ask them about
the oath they took. Everyone was screaming. No one heard me. Then one of the
officers hit me hit me and kept hitting me. It didn’t seem like any of them were
trained for this.”

David said he is 6-foot-2 and weighs about 280. A former wrestler, he was not
intimidated by the officer with the baton.

“The video makes me look even bigger than I am,” he said. “Those officers were
small. They seemed scared. They had no tactics, just seemed like a gang.”

Saturday evening-

Both law enforcement agencies indiscriminately used force against members of the
public, regardless if they had committed a crime or not. Several protesters broke into
the police union building and lit a fire—which was extinguished before spreading.
Portland officers shot tear gas into the crowd gathered before the union building,
and threw many to the ground—including the Mercury’s own Blair Stenvick—
while they were trying to leave the area. Blair was yelling at police that they
were a member of the press when police shoved them.

1 July 2020, offers some answers.

In response to a presidential order “Protecting American Monuments, Memorials, Statues
and Combating Recent Criminal Activity, “ the acting director of homeland security
has created the “DHS Protecting American Communities Task Force (Pact) to provide
an ongoing assessment of potential civil unrest and property destruction”.

The italics are mine, but the memo describes the formation of a paramilitary organization,
reporting to the federal government and free from the laws, rules and conventions followed
(even nominally) by police and the army.

In addition, the DHS has begun “coordination with the Department of Justice (DoJ)
and the Department of the Interior (DoI) to establish information/intelligence sharing
and resource coordination as outlined in the order.

“CBP will be supporting this effort by deploying personnel to provide support over the
Fourth of July weekend which has the potential for increased disruptive activity
at specific locations across the country that could threaten our personnel
and the federal facilities and property they protect.”

wait a minute, wait a minute! The rule of law, in the USA, is that people
are arrested after they commit a violation or crime- not before. In Trump's case, he
announces to the world that he has intentions of committing a crime, commits the crime,

Trump has falsely accused protesters of being terrorists for weeks.
That does not make it true, and it does not justify abducting Americans
in their own country. It is Trump's "federal goons," that are terrorizing
protesters. It started because Trump wanted a photo-op at a landmark
church, to produce the images that gave the impression that he was not
a coward. That was Trump's first move, to snatch Constitutional rights
away from Americans. He sent the police that serve federal offices
to victimize American protesters, and those agents did not pause,

The federal police forces could have stripped off their paramilitary gear
and their uniforms, and joined the protesters, and protest the illegality of

request, or willingly receive operational support… from any agent or employee
representing or constituting part of deployment under executive order from the
president,” the resolution reads.

A second resolution proposed Wednesday by Eudaly attempts to underscore a current
legal order prohibiting PPB’s use of force against legal observers and members of the
press.

“...There have been serious allegations made that tear gas, pepper spray, excessive force
calls to disperse, and arrest have been used to prevent the press from documenting the
actions of officers and protesters,” reads the resolution.

Trump administration is sending a team of Customs and Border Protection tactical
officers to Seattle in anticipation of potential clashes with protesters in the city,
two Homeland Security officials with knowledge of the plans said Thursday.

Sending the CBP’s Office of Field Operations Special Response (Ultra-Violent goon team,
granted permission to kill defenseless undocumented immigrants at the border.)
Teams who are trained in riot control response and typically deploy when protesters
gather at international border crossings.

(Para-military federal Lawn Police) which is tasked with guarding federal buildings and requested the assistance.
“The (CBP) teams will be in a standby posture in case we need them.”

DHS agents and officers have played a central role in the federal response to protests
in Portland, and the Trump administration this week announced plans to deploy officers
to Chicago, Albuquerque and other cities where crime in rising.

The Seattle deployment is not part of that deployment.

Homeland Security officials dispatched a team of agents this month
in anticipation of protests around the July 4 holiday, but those forces
were withdrawn, officials said.

for using threats of physical violence, less-lethal munitions, and arrest to keep
journalists and legal observers from documenting officers’ actions during a protest.

The (Portland) Mercury is one of the plaintiffs in this case.

City attorneys argue that PPB officers are only arresting and using force against people
at protests who engage in criminal activity.

Yet, when the ACLU filed an identical claim against federal law enforcement agencies
Portland city attorneys agreed with the civil rights lawyers that the crowd control tactics
used by the feds indiscriminately harm non-violent protesters and members of the media.

Mayor Ted Wheeler seeks to Justice Wash his image, and talk to the New York Times

The protesters know a propaganda photo-op, when they see one.

Wheeler remained at the fence for a second barrage of tear gas, pinching his paper
medical mask over his nose as the thick chemicals doused the crowd. Behind him,
dozens of Portlanders continued to chant, “Fuck Ted Wheeler" and "Tear Gas Ted,"
as others asked why he’d waited for federal police to assault his community before
joining the crowd.

“What is this publicity stunt?” yelled a man in the crowd as Wheeler spoke to
reporters through fogged-up goggles. “You were gassing people a month ago!”

they stalked immigrant communities. This escalation is no surprise.

Fear of terrorists and weapons of mass destruction coming across the southern

ultra-militarized agencies. The ever escalating detention and deportation regime
is one way they keep busy, and now, with Portland as a test case, we see another.

The Oregon governor, Kate Brown, said: “This is a democracy, not a dictatorship."
"We cannot have secret police abducting people in unmarked vehicles."
"I can’t believe I have to say that to the president of the United States.”

The blurriness of the role and reach of these federal police is not an accident, according
to the Cuny Graduate Center sociology professor Dr David Brotherton. “It’s interesting
that they’ve gone straight to these outfits that have very vague protocols, it’s vague as
to who oversees them, unlike the US marshals, say. These guys have more leeway.”

Having worked in and studied nations governed by dictators over decades, Brotherton
sees familiar patterns emerging. “You send these storm troopers in with no intention
of restoring order, rather they are agent provocateurs stirring it up.
With all the paraphernalia, the gas masks, the armored cars, what is
the end game? Is it creating a feeling of ungovernability, creating a feeling
that it’s all out of control? That is the point, so that he can say:
‘I’m coming in to save you.’”

Again, this fascistic savior narrative of one man needing to take back control is
not a new one, it has long used both rhetorically and politically against immigrants.

Yesterday a federal judge issued a temporary restraining order barring federal cops
from targeting, threatening, or using force against journalists and legal observers.
(The Mercury is one of the plaintiffs in this lawsuit brought by the ACLU, btw.)

A judge refused to grant the Oregon Attorney General's request for a restraining order
against federal officers that would've required them to identify themselves and their
agencies before arrests, and would have stopped any detainment without probable cause.

Washington Post and Nwe York Times are reporting tear gas fired at close range.

Heavily armed men in camouflage fatigues advancing in a skirmish line along
downtown Portland’s Main Street at 2 a.m., firing tear gas at fleeing crowds.

Federal officers clearing out nearby Lownsdale Square, yanking shields from
some people and striking others with batons.

Uniformed government agents pulling at least two people into unmarked vans
off city streets for questioning.

All with no city police in view and at least a block away from the federal courthouse
President Donald Trump and Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad F. Wolf said
they sent 114 federal officers to protect.

The guarding line stops at the sidewalk in front of the federal courthouse.

Creepy Chad Wolf said-

Those officers, under the law, may “carry firearms ... conduct investigations on or off
the property in question ... and make arrests without a warrant for any offense against
the United States” if they have “reasonable grounds to believe the person to be arrested
has committed a felony.”

It seems that Portland was not the first guinea pig/ lab rat for Trump's experiment.

U.S. Attorney General William P. Barr explained how he justified sending federal officers
to address unrest in the Virgin Islands after a hurricane in 1989

“Constitutional democracies are fragile,” Kanter said. “If people don’t stand up to insist
on rule of law and justice, wherever it falls, you’re going to wake up in a few years
and you’re not going to be in the same country.

“This is the time when people have to stand up. It’s the reason people become lawyers.
The real reason we have a legal system.”

National Guard Officer Contradicts AG Barr’s Account of Clearing Protestors Ahead of Trump Photo Op: ‘Provoked Escalation’

Major Adam DeMarco, an Iraq War veteran, was overseeing soldiers from the D.C. National Guard on site to backstop federal agents who had set up a cordon in Lafayette Park to protect the White House. DeMarco says there was no plan to clear the park of mostly peaceful demonstrators before the city’s 7:00 p.m curfew until Barr arrived on scene. But after the attorney general arrived, the timetable was accelerated despite the lack of provocative acts by the protestors.

In addition, Maj. DeMarco’s account undercuts the official White House and U.S. Park Police narrative that the protestors were cleared so that fencing could be quickly erected to protect the White House. He claims the fencing did not arrive till nearly 9:00 p.m. and wasn’t erected until hours after that.

The major has revealed that Milley also appeared in the park before the tactical push into the protestors. Miller, DeMarco plans to testify, came into the park roughly a half-hour before Barr but was adamant that the military troops avoid overreacting. “General Milley told me to ensure that National Guard personnel remained calm, adding that we were there to respect the demonstrators’ First Amendment rights,” DeMarco will testify.

DHS Gestapo tucks tail, slithers away from Seattle after frosty reception from local cops​

DHS Gestapo agents hit the ground running Saturday afternoon, arriving in Seattle, Washington.

They were immediately told in no uncertain terms by state, county, and local authorities that their presence was in no way, shape or form welcome there.

After four days of idling around, doing nothing, they boarded a federal charter today and presumably relocated to a more hospitable environment where their escalation techniques are better appreciated.
