Creationism.

Is Creationism a science?

But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day.

2 Peter 3:8 (NASB)

On a more serious note..

In 'The Structure of Scientific Revolution" Thomas Kuhn popularized a concept called "paradigm shift" wherein he argued that scientific advancement is not evolutionary, but rather is a "series of peaceful interludes punctuated by intellectually violent revolutions", and that in those revolutions, "one conceptual world view is replaced by another."
Such a "paradigm shift" demands that one think of it as a change from one way of thinking to another. It becomes revolutionary. It brings about a transformation. The mind undergoes a sort of metamorphical renewal. It is not something that merely happens to the mind, but rather there are internal and external agents driving the wholesale change.
So it is with both creation and evolution issues that cause such fiery debates. Each is undergoing sweeping changes, as to viewpoints, right now. Yet, who on this board even takes the time to stay abreast of the latest ideas? None that I can find. From the cutting-edge of that being offered by both camps it appears that Creationism and Darwinism are fully failed attempts at explaining the age-old QUESTION.

You've seen that I have studied religion. I have also studied science.

The way you express your "understanding" of carbon dating shows that you can't discuss it intelligently.

I travel lots of worlds, I just don't have a vested interest in keeping one insulated and ignorant because otherwise it might lose its mojo.

It may not affect your life in any way. But if you had a teacher that encouraged that sort of lack of thought and when it's passed along to kids who are not taught to think rigorously about science but are taught to dismiss bits of it when it suits them to prop up a religion that needs no propping up, I'm offended.

You have free will. You can stuff your brains with whatever you choose. It's just a dumb, ignorant thing to do and I'm grateful that although you've decided to stuff your ears with holy cotton, other people can choose to hear.

Eventually this is what makes religion that doesn't reform, obstructionist and obsolete. This is exactly why people who are not religious get offended and angry.

This is why literal belief is contributing to ignorance instead of enriching our understanding of what life is, whether God created it or not.

Wow the sugar from the honey bun captain crunch must have kicked in. I really don't understand why you are offended and angry. I was quoting from your scientific textbooks. You have studied Religion and Science but so have I. I just don't agree that Science has found the perfect way to date things. What's the saying "close but no cigar". No, the teacher taught all - creation, evolution but then gave several alternatives to give thought to. Amazing a teacher that actually wants a child to think. Now kids get information but have no way to articulate their opinion.

I wonder really what world's you have been traveling. I would rather my kids be open minded to explore their own truth by having all viewpoints than to be told they are ignorant because their opinion simply doesn't match someone elses. I was joking by the scripture happy dance reference. I thought it was cute.

I have free will, yep I can fill my brain with whatever I choose. I choose to get all the information. I am sorry you don't seem to and simply accept the view that is most popular today.

Agreed. Which is why, if she's teaching that shit to her kids, it's tantamount to child abuse.

Oh Sean, Sean. What am I going to do with you? I was pondering your hostility toward me today and I know the reason. As much as I know you hate to admit it you like me. This came to my mind while I was listening to Billy Joel's song - Just the way you are. I send that song out to you. Let's do lunch.:D

I can't fucking stand you. You're a brain dead moron that abuses her children.

Me thinks thou doest protest too much.

Here's the LITrecorded key to SeanH's heart:

First, you must fall hard for the poster Ishmael - so hard, in fact, that after he leaves you, you'll still be so enamored with him that you can hardly mention his name on LIT, let alone ever admit to reading any of his posts...

...then you throw SeanH a rebound bone to chew on and whine away your lovesickness for Ishmael to him.

But just for a bit or so - just long enough for him to understand how far, far short he naturally falls of your true love's standard.

Trust me: you will then not only have SeanH eternally lapdogging at your feet, but he'll also keep his insecurity of Ishmael prevalent on this Board to provide hours and hours on entertainment.

Just use him as the tool he was born to be...

No, you don't.

I can't help it, I think we are musical together. Is this were we break into the song from the Annie Get your Gun Musical....

Anything you can do
I can do better.
I can do anything better than you
No you can't
Yes I can
No you can't , yes I can, yes, I CAAAAAAAN! :D

Thanks for letting me know. See I like to know allllllll the information I can!:D

Seriously, if I found out that my child was being taught the myth of creation I would be damn fucking mad. Schools are in the business of educating children, not entertaining them with myths masquerading as facts. When a child is old enough to be discerning about the validity of information presented to them then that is the time for myths and fables.

If you don't agree with the science of evolution then that is a conscious choice you are making. Science is what it is, facts and figures and probabilities.

There is a funny irony in you being unconvinced of science's ability to accurately date fossils, but are happy to make that leap of faith to believe in God and the bible.
.

As my University Professor once said to me....Creationism and Evolution are both perfectly legitimate theories....but only one is provable by actual evidence.

I can almost not stop myself from laughing so hard! I think it is funny that I am intolerent because I welcome all viewpoints being discussed and you are not and would be fucking mad if your child learned anything but what was the popular view of the time. I think my kids are smart enough not to have information just shoved down their throat with no thought process behind it.

The thing is I am not anti-science. I think that someday science will bridge the gap between the two sides. GO SCIENCE!!!!

See I am not unconvinced that science will have the ability to accurately date fossils. It is just not right now. If I said the bible was 95% accurate people would jump on my ass so hard. But if you think that it is alright for carbon dating to be 95% accurate for current years and a guess for "millions' of years ago. Fine. What I do have a question about is who has the most faith. Your faith in science or my faith in the historical record of scripture.

my faith in the historical record of scripture.

The Holy Bible is infallible as a source of all worthwhile knowledge. Knowledge found outside of the Good Book is interesting but inconsequential in the big picture. Therefore, 99.9% of science is hardly worth doing, studying or debating. Even if 100% correct it is neither important, useful nor crucial to the goal of an eternal life.

However, there is nothing that one can do but pray for the stubborn non-believers. Unless they change their ways they shall perish forever.
