As a Texas gal, I have to go with cream gravy. It's tons better than brown gravy. I hate brown gravy. It's nasty.

but how can you have an english roast dinner without brown gravy ?

(i don't even know what cream gravy is)

Béchamel made with milk instead of cream and with a ton of black pepper in it.

As to the question, depends on the brown gravy and it depends on what it's served with.

The first time I got asked (outside of Texas, of course) if I wanted brown gravy or white with my Chicken Fried Steak I nearly went apoplectic, though.

ermmm i assume you mean a piece of cooked chicken breast? nahhh sorry... definately rich brown gravy for chicken.

now Ted... what's this about gravy for breakfast??!?!?! *boggle*

Cream Gravy

My family always calls it white gravy or grease gravy . The best on biscuits or potatoes ! I like it on rice or baked squash too. yum

Quick Duck,

We're going to have to take you out on a chicken fried steak expedition.

It's fried steak with cream gravy.

Cream gravy with fried chicken, cream gravy with potatoes, cream gravy with biscuits, cream gravy with french fries, cream gravy with any breakfast food.

The only thing that deserves a brown gravy is something with roast or the like. And then I don't really care for brown gravy.

Nope. Chicken fried steak is a piece of tenderized (usually crappy) round steak (or other cut) that's breaded and deep fried like chicken. Traditionally served with mashed potatoes, cream gravy and something green (that gets ignored in favor of all the fat swimming on your plate). When you get here I'll take you out for the best chicken fried steak around. =)

And yeah, gravy for breakfast, babe. Get used to it.

And we'll have to take him to some hole in the wall diner for some good biscuits and (cream) sausage gravy for breakfast. :D

YUM!

The difference in food of different cultures has always amazed me..

and I like both gravies.. depending on what it is I'm eating.

Now Girly is telling me that "country fried steak" is good for breakfast.

when i pointed out that steak was not a breakfast food, she replied "well it isn;t really steak"

excuse me while i go have a nervous breakdown

LMAO!!

I was just explaining to him in IM what country fried steak was. He's having trouble with the concept of biscuits and gravy, or fried potatos and gravy, ect..

Hehe He just said "Gravy should never have pieces of anything in it. Unless it's poorly made and has lumps."

Texans seem to think that steak of any kind goes very well with eggs.

Let me just stop right here and say that I've never ordered a chicken fried steak for myself...and I've never eaten red meat with my breakfast! lol
