Hi all,

I went to check on my pending story and I noticed that the timer had restarted overnight. I submitted the story about a day and a half ago, but now it says it was submitted 3 hours ago.

I haven’t opened the story or tried to edit it so I’m not sure why this would happen.

Any ideas as to why this happened and what it means?

People have reported this happening lately. I've seen it once myself. It could have something to do with checking for AI, but I don't think anyone knows for certain.

How long does it typically take to approve stories? I submitted mine almost 2 days ago (40 hours).

It can vary a lot, but usually they'll go live within a week. Often within a few days (but sometimes longer, if things are congested). Make sure not to edit it while it's pending, or it'll reset the timer!

I recommend sending Laurel a direct message. When it happened to me, it was on a story that I'd submitted as an RTF file, but it had been converted to the marked-up version in the entry box. That leads me to believe that it's either a glitch in whatever software the site uses to convert such files prior to posting, or else a simple oversight like forgetting to click a box when she goes to schedule something to post. Either way, a quick note explaining that the timer reset on [Whatever You Named Your Story] may help sort things out. Even if you do nothing, though, it'll probably get taken care of whenever it comes around on the carousel of new stories again.

Around two days is typical. Three to five days is not uncommon. When there's a contest or other event going on, whose entries get priority, a couple of additional days of pending can be expected for non-entry stories.
New authors generally report it taking a bit longer, presumably because they get greater scrutiny to make sure they're playing by site rules. Certain categories or types of stories are also believed to be looked at more closely, which may add a day or two.

This happened to me once, but it eventually went up. Ive had it take more than 10 days, but also had my most recent chapter go up after like 2 days.

I know it can be frustrating, but you just have to wait.

I don't even open it once I have hit submit, much less edit it. Don't want to jinx it.

As a relatively new author here, my 1st new story took 14 days to post. My 2nd, each time I got a response, it was about 10-11 days. I was rejected a few times for reasons I won't detail here (read my prior forum posts if you want) but after the 4th and final time, I got approved in 7 days. My 3rd story is now pending publication tomorrow, and I submitted it yesterday.

All that to say, don't get discouraged. It takes time. If you are new, especially, it seems you're going to have a longer delay as it goes through whatever their vetting / AI filtering process is. If this is your very 1st story, I would say, wait at least 10 days before worrying about it. The 2-3 day guidance in Literotica's FAQ was before AI and is not really applicable, in my experience.
