Could a too high price cap on liability damages hurt HMO industry?

Are you referring to compensatory damages as opposed to puniitive damages?

If the reference is to compensatory damages, no. They should be accountable to repair the damage they do.

Punitive damages, Uncle Bill.

Alright Todd, whats your idea of a cap on how much a person's life is worth?

To answer your question straight-forward though, yes, I am opposed to their being caps on punitive damages awarded.

Make no mistake, the insurance companies are FOR-PROFIT companies. They take a few dollars out of each of our checks each week and then INTEND to keep a percentage of that money after all of their costs have been paid. Doesn't that seem like a conflict of intrest to you?

Does this person REALLY need this million dollar treatment, or can we deny his claim, however legitimate, and take our chances with the, at worst, capped settlement amount?

Easy to decide when we're talking about someone else, but without putting laws in place to keep the insurance companies honest are you willing to trust them with your life???
