Cosmetic Surgery...

Never had any, but then, never have any money. Maybe some day, when I am older, I might do a tummy tuck. But I would rather do excersice then go through expensive surgery.

Now, they just need to start up that Cardio Strip here in MI ;)

Have you ever had any? Would you consider any? Why?
The only kind I have considered was hair replacement for my balding head, but when I saw how much they had to cut the scalp to get the donor hair I dropped the idea like a hot potato. I thought they just pulled the hair somehow, not slice up your scalp.

I guess there is one thing I might do some day soon, but not sure it's really cosmetic.

I have horrid vision, and would like to have the corrective eye surgery done. BUT... I can't so much as stick a finger in my eye to wear contacts. How in the world would it feel to be wide awake, and have a lazer pointed at your eye?!?!?!?!?

I don't know if this qualifies as cosmetic or not but when I get older I'll have to have breast reduction surgery. My poor back won't carry these puppies around forever. I'm thinking a C cup would be really lovely.

Good God...NO!!!

I kind of like the package I've got.

And I don't really fear aging or its attendant signs. My genetic tree shows remarkably wrinkle-free skin (on both sides of the family) and almost everyone looks at least 20 years younger than their chronological ages!

But the 2 strongest reasons why I would never fool around with Mother Nature are right here!

And if this doesn't put the fear of God into you, nothing will...

(She really does have a good case, I believe, against all the plastic surgeons who saw her and KEPT performing one surgery after another)

So, Barb, what did you look like when you turned 18? :D (sorry, couldn't help it)

And give people a warning before posting scary pictures. I thought Outsider was bad.:)

WHILE they do it... and the smell of burning flesh is so appetizing!;) It is just the next three days that hurt like hell...but it is so worth it!! I did it two years ago, after wearing glasses/contacts for over 30 years!

Ooo... yummy... the smell of burnt flesh....

No

It ranks right up there with colouring my hair to cover the grey, and that ain't happenning either!

I had surgery on my jaw when I was 14 to correct an overbite. It was considered cosmetic, but the choice was braces for 5 years, or 3, and my Mother diecided.

I'd never consider cosmetic surgery (Exception is above) I love the way I look, winter wind-blown lines and all.

I've dyed my hair since I was 15 or 16. I figure it's the only thing I can change for $30 or $50 and I love the change. I don't know what my original color is anymore!

LOL @ Harbinger

I guess I looked like the proverbial twinkle in my Daddy's eyes! ;)

Actually, I think I look better now than I did at 18. Oh, and as far as coloring my hair? I wouldn't do that either. I started getting my first gray hairs in college. Didn't bother me then and I have tons more now! Only they look more silvery and shiny than 'just gray'- I think they look cool! My closest friends all dye their hair though.

I was looking for that famous pic of Jocelyn- where she is tawny and catlike and FRIGHTENING! Betcha anything OUTSIDER could find it! :)

Insurance companies like to claim it as "cosmetic" but ask any sufferer of TMJ if they aren't in pain all the time. Yours may not have been that serious, but I had several different experts opinions on my daughter's TMJ and they all recommended surgery. The insurance company wouldn't cover it as they claimed it was cosmetic. I paid $14K out of pocket for the surgery and the braces afterwards, the braces before were another couple of thousand.

It is best to get such surgery done when you are young; people who wait until their twenties often wind up having the surgery done multiple times and are in constant pain. For me, it was not the appearance; my daughter has always been pretty - it was the pain she was suffering and it would only get worse.

Bratcat.

Burning flesh smell? Really?

 And I wanted to do it too.

LASIK

I had LASIK (laser corrective eye surgery) done a year ago. I think BratCat is pullin' your leg about the smell of burning flesh - I sure didn't smell anything like that! ;)

There's no bigger chicken than me when it comes to anything to do with eyes, but it really was a piece of cake. Some dry eyes for several months, but much better now.

The key is to go to a really good surgeon, and go through a very thorough screening exam - make sure they measure your pupils (if they are too large, you'll be very, very sorry you ever had the surgery), and do tests for dryness (if your eyes are too dry, you'll be even sorrier you ever had the surgery), and also measure your corneas, to make sure you have enough to work with.

It's not for everyone (those who don't meet the screening standards), but for me it's like a miracle everyday to wake up and be able to see.
