was on the pill, couldnt stand how it made me feel so we went to coitus interuptus, .....lets just say, it didnt work to great....

You don't use the pill anymore because of the lack of desire induced by the pill?

Depo Provera injection, once every 3 months instead of a pill every day. Stops menstruation, too.

I love my IUD :) Just one Doc's visit a year for replacement. Spontaneous sex is the best sex. I also have problems with things like Depo and the pill. I'm at a high risk of having a stroke if I use the pill because of chronic migraines, so this was the only way to go for me.

I stopped using the pill because i was angry at everyone all the time, no longer felt like myself, was sick of daily migraines, and lack of sex drive, oh, not to mention the 40lbs i gained on it.

I am considuring this. How did it go? Tell me the down side cause I'm a natural borne Pessimist...... it's a birth defect i can do anything about.... like being a smart ass, I just can't help it.

We're currently using coitus interruptus and sometimes condoms. I was on Depo Provera for a while and it really did a job on my system. I'm unable to go on birth control until I get an all clear from my doctor. I'm really debating not going on it again after the whole Depo Provera mess. We're looking towards my partner getting a vasectomy instead.

I had it many many years ago....the story of why I had it and the after thje surgry are really funny but I do not type well enough to get it all here

It went well...my son has also had it.......

There are mdical studies that indicate that it can lead to heart peroblems later in life....however they are just small studies with low evidence

I never had the bad side affects until about 2 months later. I didn't think much of them and stayed on the shot. Things got a lot worse from there. I wasn't one of the lucky ones that had my period stop. In fact, I had a lot of the really bad side affects. I'm defiitely one of the failures for Depo Provera.

The pill

I've been using the pill for quite a while now. I had problems with it at first...nausea, mood-swings...I had a great doctor though, and he let me know that there are many, many variations of the pill. For those of you who have tried it and didn't like how it made you feel, you may just have the wrong combination of hormones. You can ask your doctor to change the type you are using to one with more/less estrogen/progestin.

Oh, and on another note...if you are taking antibiotics and use the pill...use another form of birth control as well. The antibiotics lower the effectiveness and some doctors and pharmacists forget to warn you. I have a beautiful neice for this very reason. LOL I think that antidepressants affect the pill the same way.

My wife was on the pill but there were side effects and we switched to condoms. She saw her doctor and is now using another variation of the pill. I need a little more time to be absolutely sure we are not gaving any more children and then plan on getting snipped. Bottom line, condoms do the job but riding bareback is best. I'd forgotten what I was missing all the while we were using condoms.

I use the pill and dislike it I don't have really bad side effects ( i did on depo) but I dislike the idea of using chemicals in that way. I actually enjoyed the whole female mystry thing of my 'real' cycle back when I was a teenager and not using contraceptives regularly.

We tried condoms but we both hate them! not looking forward ot three months of condon using when I come off the pill. My doctor says you should give it that long before you try for a baby.

I wish they would hurry up and get the male pill right then at least you could take it it turns to pump chemicals into your bodies!!

Hubby got fixed last Valentines Day. No kidding. True love I tell you.

I had trouble with the pill and depo shots. I am telling you ladies. Do NOT screw around with your hormones.Sure there are lots of different pills if you feel like being a guinea pig. It took me years to get back to "normal". What's the point if you are fat, bitchy, and noone wants to fuck you.

My wife is on the pill, however I have been thinking about getting cut. Just not sure if I am ready to make that decision at 32??

Plus I am scared I will be the 1 out of 100 (or what ever the number is) that has problems.

I'm worried too. I'm 35 and don't want anymore kids (my wife does). I love my kids but another one would run me down with worries.

Snip!

I'm one, like a few others here, that's snipped. Dead easy to do. Since someone asked about vasectomy, here's what I remember of mine.

First and foremost, find a good urologist! I worked for a hospital service company at the time so finding one wasn't the problem. I had tons of good choices. You'll have to go in with your spouse in most cases if you are married. Most of the good docs want to talk with both of you to make sure everyone involved is giving "informed consent". Many are also reluctant to do vasectomies on single or very young men, especially those having no children. If you're squeamish or nervous, ask the doc what he recommends to keep you calm on the day of your surgery.

Once you decide to go ahead:

Follow the doc's written instructions!

Shave yourself the morning of your surgery. Then when you show up, the doc is gonna put you on what is, for all intents and purposes, a gynecological exam table. Stirrups and the whole bit. They'll probably lightly strap your legs to the stirrups to prevent any inadvertant jerks of the leg. Then a small injection of local anesthetic where the incisions will be made. Generally that's more painless than the one you get for dental work.

Two incisions will be made, one on side of your sac. No more than 1/2 inch in length, each. The doc then pulls a small loop of the vas deferens through the little hole. Each vas is then cut, the cut ends of the vas are cauterized, and may also be clamped as well. It gets tucked back in and you get a couple of tiny sutures to close the incision.

Now the important part: Follow the doc's post surgery instructions to the letter.

If you don't -- you risk infection, but, more to the point for most of us, you are gonna be one very uncomfortable dude. Take your pain meds, use ice packs and wear the jock the doc recommends. Most importantly, stay off your feet and avoid the things the doc recommends you avoid exactly as instructed. If you're used to being very active in sports, this will be the hardest part. Overdoing things is gonna end up feeling like the worst kick in the nuts you've ever had. I followed the instructions and had ZERO problems. A friend didn't and was sore as hell for days...

You'll end up with itchy balls no matter what you do though. combination of healing and hair growing back.

Once you're all recovered, you'll probably have to go back a couple of times at least and jerk off into a cup for the doc. It's to get a sperm count, because just because you've gotten snipped, you are not immediately sperm free. It takes a while.

And finally, be real sure you're not gonna want more children. Although there are surgeons that can reverse a vasectomy, your chances are not good of success. First, it's very expensive microsurgery, not a quick office visit sort of a snip, like getting the vasectomy was in the first place. Second, your body has adapted, as a result of the surgery, to simply absorbing the sperm you still produce. Many men end up with antibodies to it and therefore even if the vas is restored, no viable sperm are produced.

Re: Snip!

Thanks for posting that.:) I think a lot of guys think it's a big deal and according most guys I have talked to it's a cinch. The worst case is it will feel like you've been kicked in the nuts for a few hours afterward. Compare that to labor and delivery of a baby and it looks pretty good. My husband swears he'd do it again in exchange for condomless sex.

contraception

I've been fixed for about the last six years. My wife had been on the Pill until she went off it to have our daughter. After that, we used condoms or "raincoats" as my wife called them 'cause sex with a condom is like taking a shower wearing a raincoat. Anyway...not the best sex. Sometimes we'd use semi-coitus interuptus. We'd fuck for a bit without a rubber just for the feeling until I thought I was getting too close and then I'd "wrap up" to finish. Not the best either. "Pulling out" is just too risky for my taste unless you really don't mind getting pregnant. My "procedure" was no big deal...no complications or much discomfort. As posted by Paphian, just follow the doctor's orders and you should be fine. A minimum two sperm count tests for the "all clear" and then let the fun begin! Ironically, my wife and I find it to be a real turn on now to pretend that we're having unprotected sex with the chance of getting pregnant. Any one else feel like that?

Other

I used to use condoms, then my (now ex)GF was on the Pill for a while, but now I'm single and abstinent.... not by choice, mind you.
