I think you are under estimating the conservatism in the Asian and Latin cultures, but yep we're no longer in control any more. The half assed performance of our government to enforce our own laws and the H2 Visa scams had sunk our numbers so low that Walmart is carrying Mexican brands up here.

I think the Republican party started to decline when Ike stepped down. I know that Regan, our first "Acting President" was a definite blow to the Govern best that spend the least" on Bullshit like Starwars, TARP and the Iraq War.

Now after seeing the results of another Republican "Acting President", GWB, who by the way, lies horribly. Not like Regan who could sell soap like a trooper. I can only hope that the latest actor who our political overlords have chosen, just might have the human decency to do the right thing and bring our boys and girls home.

Here's the thing about democracy, and why George Washington's insistence that we avoid political parties seems insane to me: in a democracy, you need people on both sides of the political spectrum to keep it alive. You need liberals to say, "Hey, what can we improve about the way our country works," and you need conservatives to say, "And what should we leave alone because it's fine the way it is?" If one or the other party disappears we are going to flying off the rails in the other direction: either we'll descend into pure anarchy (we liberals in control) or totalitarian absolutism (conservatives in control), because human beings are vulnerable to groupthink and will happily do whatever makes sense to them, right here right now, regardless of things like "reality". To prevent it, we have open-air discussions where everyone is allowed to contritube. This is called Checks and Balances, and it's one of the reasons America's still here.

Conservatism in Latin cultures doesn't, as far as I've ever seen, include support for sending jobs to other countries, kidnapping Iraqis' families to pressure suspects into confessing, and bringing guns to townhall meetings. I'm quite sure they would support single payer health care.

As for gay marriage and abortion? Who knows. Asians? I wonder how the polls calculated their vote this last time...

When the population dynamics shift, we will certainly be seeing fewer of these wars. How many African Americans, Asian-Americans or Hispanics do you know who ever called for these wars?
