Today Queen Elizabeth II becomes the longest reigning British Monarch.

A matter, suppressed by the British press, involves Royal Ascot. Every year Royal Ascot is attended by Elizabeth II and other members of the British Royal Family. One year, a man dropped out of a clear sky and landed in front of the Royal Enclosure. Security was outraged and went into action. Those in the Royal Enclosure were shocked, save the Queen. Her Majesty just remarked, philosophically, “Into each reign, some life must fall.”

Thank you Mr Richard for the thread!

God bless our sovereign lady!

The Times reports today that over her reign, Her Majesty has added £47 billion to the UK economy.

What other country's Head of State operates at a profit?

Thank you, Your Majesty.

Okay, so Liz2 broke the UK record for reigning monarchs. Who holds the WORLD record? How much longer must she last to top-out?

Our Queen (may God bless her), is very popular and, frankly, those of us who've served her don't give a damn about other monarchs considered for a 'World Record'.

It's an interesting question, though.
Ramses 2 (66 years) comes to mind. . . .

I figure she's hanging on to save the UK from having Charles as monarch...

But three cheers and a tiger for Good Queen Bess II!

Sobhuza, king of Swaziland. 82 years. We don't want that for the dear woman.

Quite. Why doesn't he have the grace to die hang-gliding or going airtight or something? Could the UK monarchy survive King Chuck?

I can see QE2 appreciating the humor of a thank-you thread running on a porn discussion site.

King Bhumibol Adulyadej - King of Thailand since 1946, so 69 years so far, which makes him the longest-serving Head of State

Which I have always thought was amusing. When I first was assigned to Thailand in 1976, we were told that the king was being poisoned (by the queen) and would die soon. Our household goods were held up for months (not just because of the perceived riots/communist coup after his death but also because supposedly the North Vietnamese army was going to sweep in from the east). Incidentally, King Bhumibol only became king because he "accidentally" shot his brother.

Yes, sixty three years on the throne.
Must have been one hell of a curry.

I like the POW. You have, I believe, to admire a man who can trash 'brutalist' architecture and make it stick. Besides, he's a mean man with a double gun. And he plays the cello competently.

He also likes fox hunting, and he cheated on Diana with Camilla (says something about his judgement!) before she responded (multiple times with multiple guys).

He seems to like the Scots - well he has a herd of Ayrshire cows - and has a personal staff almost double that of the Queen's.

You can get odds from British Bookies that he will never be King

You can get odds from British Bookies on almost anything.

They know that in the longer term you'll lose and they'll win.

I suspect that, if She had a personal patron saint, it might be (in Latin naming):

Appyan Glorius.
