I just recently saw an advertisement for Evidence Eliminator.
They say:

>Did you know... that your computer is spying on you? Did you >know for example that every click you make on Windows 98 >Start Menu is logged and stored permanently on a hidden >encrypted database within your own computer?
>Deleting "internet cache and history", will not protect you... your >PC is keeping frightening records of both your online and off-line >activity. Any of the Web Pages, Pictures, Movies, Videos, >Sounds, E-mail and Everything Else you or anyone else have >ever viewed could easily be recovered - even many years later!"

Does anyone know anything about this? Is it true? Where is this hidden database and how can it be read? Is that bit it says about Windows 98 true for later editions like Windows Millenium? If its all true is it possible to truly clean off the hard drive without having to put over 100 bucks down?

I never thought of this before. But this advertisment at http://www.evidence-eliminator.com/ is really manipulative and can almost scare you. So I thought I'd do some research and find out the real story. I hope someone can give me some helpful information. Thanks.

if you have Win95 or Win98...

there's a prog called Tweak UI... that you can use to eather hide or erase that stuff... it's on your instalation CD...

it's Free...

Win98 SE might not have it.... i'm not sure, but i heard Micrisoft took it off that CD...

Oh yeah, I love my Tweak UI. I also have System Mechanic, and along with it, the Incinerator optionm which is kinda like a recycle bin, but more secure for some of my little "secrets" that i don't want found out. :)

or .. forget all the software and just use a Mac...

... so you don't have to go find your sys./bat&dis/config/dir: blah blah whateverthehellWIndoze calls it! :)

sorry, I don't want to start an OS war .. I actually use both, but the mac is just too damn easy.

I have heard of Evidence Eliminator and others and that they work well. You can also turn off History tracking and caching in your browser so it doens't 'remember' where you were. I'm not sure about the hidden database thing, but I know I have used programs like Norton Unerase to retrieve long deleted files ..

I use both Win ME and Win 2000 on my dual boot system, MAC OS just sucks in my oinnion. Since I am the only person who useses this computer, I do not need to delete what I have done. Any way, it can kick you in the ass if you do. Let me tell you a little story to get my reason across.

Last year, I was framed for hacking a goverment web site in Sydney. Now I may know more then the avrage person about computers, but hacking is something I would not touch with a 50 foot pole.
Any ways, I had no proof to prove that it wasn't me. Any way, my computer was searched for more evidance to prove it was me, and what they found proved that I didn't do it. They found records of what I was doing at the time the hacking toke place.
My computer was hacked as I was online playing a game over the internet. Some one hacked into my computer, and used my computer to hack the web site.
With this, I was let off.

My point is, don'tdelete records like that, unless you have to.

i understand they're comming out with a new Win OS....let me see if i can find that info i got....
