I have tried to find the answer out myself and can't so I hoping someone can explain to me how to change the pixels on a pic. I have XP Paint and I go to attributes and put in the size I want but instead of shrinking the whole pic I get a piece of the pic shrunk to the size I want.

What am I doing wrong?

Its for my hubby who is on another board and wants it for an avatar. I don't want it done for me. I want to learn how to do it so I can continue shrinking pics. when I want to.

Thanks for any help you can give and please bare in mind that I will need simple instructions. ;)

Go to the "Image" menu and choose "Stretch/Skew". Enter a percentage by which you want the program to shrink the image (should be the same number hotizontally and vertically otherwise your pic will get distorted).

Save your shrunken pic and then go to the Image menu and choose Attributes to see the new dimensions of the pic. If it's still too big, repeat the steps above.

Thank you so much MysteriousWays :D

Easy as pie once someone explains it. Now what about putting a border of color around the pic. Is that doable for me to learn?

I'm not sure how that's done in XP-Paint -- it's fairly complicated in MS-Paint andI suspect that XP-Paint is very similar.

The first suggestion about IrfanView referred to a popular freeware image managment and editing program tha cn be downloade from www.irfanview.com wich makes resizing and basic enhancements of images -- like adding borders -- very simple.

One big advantage of converting to irfanview is that there are many more people here at Lit who use it and can give detailed advice on how to do things with it.

Personally, I use Project Dogwaffle to do all my AV pics.
Can get it from www.download.com and do a search for Dogwaffle to pull it up.
I use version 1.1 I belive it is.
Easy to resize through "resample" along with color editing, shades, various brushes, etc. Take a bit to learn but its not really that difficult.

Also lets you mess with the color hues to create a "blue" picture like my current AV.

I use Paint Shop Pro. It is IMHO one of the best graphic programmes on the market today (Photoshop would be the other). It has a lot of corrective features if you has a underexposed picture f.inst and above all it is VERY easy to use. It DOES cost some money but it's worth it.:D
It also has a lot of "artistic" features so that you can make pictures like this:

PaintShop Pro (from www.jasc.com in a thirty day trial version) is what IrfanView wants to be when it grows up. :p

It's my default program for almost all image formats and almost any serious image editing I need to do. IMHO it's far better than the more expensive Adobe programs -- PhotoShop, PhotoDeluxe, etc, because it's not a memory hog.
