As Litland appears to be a very international site, I thought I'd pass on a competition I came across recently.

http://www.cba.org.uk/shortstory2003.htm

It appears to me to be a worthwhile competition to try.

Please note though, there is one Rule that stipulates Commonwealth citizens are eligible - and I'm assuming that means no 'foreigners' ;)

I suggest if you'd like to enter the competition, that you thoroughly read the Rules and Regulations first though - but you intelligent people don't need me telling you the obvious.

...by the way, 4'3" does not mean 4 foot, 30 inches - that's for any Americans who take a peek.

;)

Mona, you're welcome... though I'm not sure where you're from :)

Svenskaflicka, feel free to move to a civilised country anytime ;)

Awww, thank you, WSO - but I think I prefer to stay in the barbaric Sweden, where we haven't had a war for almost 200 years...:D

Thatnks for the info, WSO, but it's only 600 words! How can I write something flattering to the commonwealth in so few words??

Also, I don't know if they'll accept erotica. Shame. I'm feeling very Imperial these days.

Mona, judging by your AV, I'd guess you were somewhere warm. So I'm thinking the Carribean. Of course it could aslo be the Falklands on a nice day, I suppose.

SF, don't worry, in you'll find a lot of Viking blood in many Bristish people. Of course it wasn't only their blood that found its way into the Brits.

Did you know that "Viking" was the origin for the word "fucking?" It comes from the times when the Celtic shore-watch used to shout "Those Viking ships are here again!"

Jolly good point, old chappy! The Brits and their colonists have never been known for succinctity. ;) I guess lying back and thinking of England isn't going to help much here...

Oh, the inspiration..! *reaching for pen*

Hmmmmmmmmm 600 words!!!!!!!!!:p

WSO you're the flash story expert - better get cracking had n't you!

As for me, I could not develop a character in 600 words let alone tell a whole story.

I guess you could say I am a bit of a gas bag.

jon

hmm like, i can think of a thing to write about this lucious country that would fit into a 600 word count. like, maybe i should take up poetry.

600 words on NZ. i wouldn't even be scraping the surface on the sealed road outside.

and i don't think it was gentlemanly of you to swing the comp back on me like that either jon :p

odd though how the Taniwha just jumped into my mind... hmmm
