ComicCon HOOOO!

Should I admit that I"ve lived in San Diego for over 4 years and haven't gone to ComicCon yet?

Driving and parking hassles are no excuse! You've got rapid transit! That little red train drops folk off right at the convention center for heaven's sake!

This is one of the biggest, most international multi-media conventions IN THE WORLD! Get your ass down here!

The Rapid Transit doesn't run where I live. It may surprise visitors to know just how spread out of a city San Diego is. My roommate and his girlfriend are going on Saturday, so I may tag along with them, especially to see Kevin Smith.

The waitress seemed quite enchanted with Mr. Muscles there...
Mr. Muscles?!? This is SAN DIEGO, man! In Central Florida I may be rated around 7 on attractiveness & physique scales for the area... but here?!? FEH! I'm a 5.

Of course, at ComicCon itself?!? The population of the "unwashed geek" goes up exponentially... as I do know what the inside of a gym looks like, how to use all said equipment, and know that WASHING is something to be done at least once a day, my standing goes up to an 8-9 simply on hygene alone!

If that's the case I so have to get to comic con just to be an 8. I've always wanted to be an 8!

Since I've just realized I haven't a clue as to what ComicCon is, can someone explain it? And what does that have to do with Muscles?

Comic con is a HUGE, really really HUGE comic convetion in San Diego each year.

The thing with the muscles is well, it mostly attended by geeks, nerds, dorks and dweebs. So anyone with even mildly well build muscles looks like beefcake comparatively.

Salvor pretty much has it. ComicCon is a large "popular media" convention -- a place for people who love science fiction in tv shows, movies and books, people who love fantasy, anime, video games, roleplaying games and comic books to get together with the people who create, publish and/or sell it and ... well, geek out.

There are a lot of these conventions all around the world, mostly in the US, Canada and the UK. Some are huge things, some are tiny. They happen on college campuses and hotel convention centers. The ones I know of are DragonCon, ComicCon, GenCon, MegaCon, Word Fantasy Con, Necronomicon and RavenCon. There are hundreds more, popping up and fading away like mushrooms in the rainy season. Some come back year after year, some are short lived.

And Salvor has the muscles thing pretty much down, too. There's a stereotype for gamers, comicbookgeeks, and fanboys/fangirls, and that stereotype is REAL. While a comparative minority actually fulfill ALL parts of it -- that is, ignorant of hygiene, lacking any conversation that doesn't reference either a comic book, a cheat code or a dice roll, unaware of the basic rules of social interaction, lacking in grace, sendentary to the point of obsession, existing on high caffeine, high sugar drinks and pizza, sunlight combustable, wearing mostly black, not owning a shirt that doesn't have a slogan, picture or logo on it, and often striking those not a part of the community (and some portion of those within it) as having had remarkably bad luck in the genetic lottery.

Does that help?

A few of my anime and gamer buddies are there. I wish I could have been. SD is one of the places I want to see and the Con sounded fun.

So, how many of you are there? I am in and out of the AH so much I loose track of who is going....

Belegon is here, 3113 is here, and it's possible a couple other AH'ers will come out of the woodwork if luck runs right and the correct trees are shaken. Not sure yet, so I don't want to say anything.

Did you make it out of the dealer's room alive, or are you writing us from the spirit world? Did you attend any panels? Or are you now shopping around SD? Has AGB been kidnapped by white slavers yet? You've got to be careful of those crowds.....

Just to give you idea of what we're facing down here:

This photo was taken at a light time in a not-so-crowded part of the show room.

I did not go NEAR the madness today. I looked over the schedule, found the authors by whom I need books autographed, and since I blew all my money at the zoo, that's it. Nada, nuthin' nuthin' nuthin' else. I go int, get books signed, get out. It's freakin' SCARY in there.

ABG did the things he needed to do today and I'll hear from him when he gets back.

Even he took time away from the Con to come into my work and stare me into actually taking a break and eating...

I said I was going to actually take a lunch today and my team got this glazed, shocked look in their eyes...

That was just the effect of the clinging con-funk that trailed in with me... I'd tried to get it off during the walk from the convention... but you know how that shit sticks!

do you get the feeling that if we hadn't have grabbed that waitress we would STILL be waiting for the guy to bring the Iced Thai Coffee?

New day, new things to see and do...I hope ABG posts the pictures soon. He's only taken about 300 hundred..

Booth bunnies fear me. They do not come near me. They know better :) They save their "talent" for people who might spend money.

Poor Sal!
