Etoile said:Wow! Is that commonly allowed in Australia or the Netherlands? I can't imagine a U.S. high school permitting a 30 year old in classes.
Oz....LOL, even wore the uniform. Was suggested given I was a single mother, had low funds and energy I might like to opt for the 5 subjects allowed mature age students instead of the 6 required for the certificate of regular age students, but I figured it wasn't fair I get the same piece of paper for doing less work so chose to do 6 subjects fulltime, and all board subjects instead of 4 board ones and 2 to relax by and still get into Uni. Amazing thing was when I started there were 30 mature age students starting (I was the only one who turned up alone without a mother or friend to hold my hand on the first day!!)....when I graduated with a lot of respect from both teachers and students alike, I was the only mature age student who finished. Most of the others came into it expecting special treatment, exemption from handing in work on time, better marks for less quality work etc....needless to say when they found they had to complete a certain level of competence and on the same schedule as everyone else, they dropped out one by one.
I loved it (hmmmm, especially that biology camp to the island for 5 days in freezing rain, leaky tent, and the cutest science teacher I have ever known sharing my tent and clinging to me everytime she heard a noise outside in the night
