It's a good thing that you've come back, because I was getting the impression that I was a thread killer. I make my way over to this thread and then no one really posts in it. Oh goodie. :p

I'm currently doing pre-med requirements, Bio, Chem, stuff like that. I want to go to med school, but I don't want to major in Biology. I actually want to major in theater and minor in spanish, but I should be attending a dinner with a medical school administrator so I can see whether this is an alright idea.

What are you majoring in?

I know you weren't asking me but I'm gonna answer :D

I am a theater major and a psychology major :)

ok I'm tired...had opening night for a play tonight...

I was kind of asking generally, so I'm glad you responded. I'm taking a Psych 100 Honors class this semester and I love it. My professor is the cutest, sweetest little lady. We got to play with a rat conditioning simulation on Monday. It was a nice change of pace.
What play were you opening, out of curiousity? I want to major in theater, but I'm not very good at acting. I've never really gotten roles. My two main ones in high school was Gloria in Bye Bye Birdie (one scene...but a showstopper nonetheless, so it was fun) and Diggory (a butler we changed to a maid) in an abridged version of She Stoops to Conquer for a high school drama festival. I did get an award for that role, but that didn't change my luck at getting roles. I wasn't so amazingly different that I wowed them, but I wasn't the type they were casting for. I'm so ticked that UMass did A Chorus Line last year, instead of this year. I've been tap dancing 13 years of my life, so I could have had some sort of role in the bag.

It's an 18th century play called "A Mogul's Tale"...first time in America and first time since the 18th century...:) maybe they'll need a tap dancer for some other parts...I know there are acouple of musicals that we've done here that we needed tap dancers for... I can't dance to save my life...well atleast not like that...I spent most of my childhood playing Barbies and acting...I've been acting for 16 years-since I was 6 and my parents say that I acted before then..just not formally in the theater and that I was ham and all that typical proud parent stuff... Yea I haven't had many roles here cause I'm not the typical actress...well size wise...not too many parts are "made" for 5 10 large women...lol:)

I'm in the same boat as you, sister. In high school, there was another large girl who could belt out songs and was a better actor than I was (she came from a theater family), so she got all the roles that I could've had...like the aunts and grandmothers and whatnot.
I auditioned for the Vagina Monologues before winter break this year and got called back...along with almost everyone else who auditioned...but didn't get a part. I think most of the girls who did get the parts are theater majors and know the two college girls who did the casting. Oh how wonderful it is to have connections.

Yea...see in high school I had no problems cause the great actresses were me and this other girl...and she was a better singer than actress and lucky for me we never did musicals in high school...lol

and yes college theater can be cliqueish with the casting...the same people cast over and over again...and usually are the director's favorites

Wow, the perfect thread! I'm 20 and in college! Sweet. Anyway hi I'm duffey, and I like cake. I live in Summerville SC and I currently go to the nastiness I like to call Trident Technical College. Supsup.

We did regular plays for the drama festivals, but the casts were much smaller. We did musicals every other year for the fall show. My junior year we did Midsummer (why couldn't we have done Twelfth Night!?!?!?!?!) and last year (*groan*) we did Oklahoma. I hate that musical, so I was stage manager. It was good, but I'm so glad I didn't have to sing those wretched songs.

And high school theater is just as bad, if not probably worse. I asked some people in the theater group here last semester about type casting and whatnot, and one of them told me that they cast differently every time. I don't know whether that's true or not, but for the monologues, where there were two college girls casting and all their college theater friends were auditioning...I wonder who would be the best at acting and I wonder who would get chosen? *fumes* Ah well, there's always next year to try. :)

Hi Duffey. Cake is good, isn't it? Glad you decided to stop by the thread. We need more people! :p

lol...I take it 12th is your fav shakespeare play? I love Midsummer and it's my fav..lol....we did Hamlet here back in November and that was AWESOME...definatly...keep auditioning...cause if they keep seeing you at somepoint you'll be cast in something ;)

Twelfth Night isn't my favorite...I have too many favorites. I basically love all his comedies...they're my faves...but Midsummer has been done so many freaking times. It's just as bad as R&J. It's almost cliche now. Even Hamlet and MacBeth don't go under that category, because if you asked the average person what those two were about, they probably wouldn't know. They'd have a much higher chance of knowing Midsummer and R&J. I would have loved to do The Tempest, too. Caliban is such a wonderfully written character. :rose:

Not to hi-jack your conversation, but have you ever seen that comedian's bit about "What if Shakespeare had written Gay porn?" The titles were hilarious - "Romeo in Joliet", "Tight-ass Androgynous"...

Sorry. I'll shut up now!

I haven't heard of that...but I love gay porn too, so that would be double the love! Shakespeare writing gay porn! Woo-hoo!

Hmmm... I guess the "Once more into the breach" speech might have had an entirely different meaning had he written gay porn...

My favorite was definatly much ado about nothing. You never hear anything about that play either, I have mentioned it to Shakespear 'fans' who have tried to convince me he never wrote something with that name *shrugs* some people think they know more then they do...

I loved Much Ado! It's not one of his better known ones. I was lucky enough to see it the year you saw it at high school (you did see it, right?). It was quite funny. A nice romantic romp.

It was one of those things that all the junior english classes went to. I was lucky because the theater kids got to see it to, no matter what grade they were. The year after, I got to see Macbeth, which was also really good. They had tasty fake blood (they let me try some :p ).
