I've been thinking ever since this thread started of what I could put here. I'm still pretty much at a loss for words.

I never was able to get that close to Colly. Probably my fault. I tend to not initiate conversations with people because I'm always afraid I'll be bothering them. I still knew her well enough to know that she was a wonderful woman... one that affected the denizens of the AH deeply on many levels. She leant a helping hand any time someone asked... and often even when no one asked but she just saw the need. It won't be the same without her. I dreamed the night after I found out that it was just a horrible misunderstanding. I wish that's all it was.

On a board full of unique people, Colly still stood out. She stood out for her intellect, compassion, and yes, her politics as well.

Unique can be partially described as a Southern raised, somewhat conservative lesbian, that liked hunting and guns, and dabbled in erotic writing on the side.

Quick to interject an opinion, or the proper answer, but never in a mean spirited way. Her politics were probably out of line with 98% of the people on this board, but everyone still respected her immensely, and listened to what she had to say. That in itself says a lot.

I never had the pleasure of meeting her anywhere except for being on this board. It is truly my loss in never being able to get to know her better.

The world took a step backwards with the loss of Colly.

Last year when I was in a bad place and was feeling rather lost she was there for me. When I couldn't think straight she was the voice of reason. A part of me couldn't believe how giving and caring she was and another part of me was just plain grateful for her friendship.

I wish I could have done something for her in return.

I didn't know Colly very well but how could I not be aware of the high esteem that everyone on this forum had for her?

She was a brilliant writer and a friend to many. What I loved about her was that she seemed to have time for anyone and I will never forget the kind words, support and inspiration that she has given me.

Back a while, last year, maybe, there was a challenge here in the hangout. We posted pieces anonymously and the idea was to guess who wrote what. I wrote a little sci-fi piece, not my usual field, although I didn't consciously try to change my style. Those guessing had a list of writers, plus a couple of red herrings. I can't remember now if anyone guessed my piece had been written by me, but quite a few guessed that it had been written by Colly. I was - and am - proud of that.

She told me once in a PM that she thought I could write anything. I doubted her then, and I confess I doubt her now, but I feel I owe it to her memory to try.

I only learned of Colly's passing last evening and I've thought of little else since. While she was an undeniably gifted author, I think that sometimes overshadowed what a beautiful human being she was. When I remember Colleen, it will be for her compassion, intelligence, and courage- as well as her talent as a writer. I shall miss her.

I read a pm she sent me one day when i could not write. She told me to read Teddy Roosevelt's man in the arena speech.

It meant so much. I said thank you to her and we then proceded to have an indepth discussion about our favorite parts of the speech.

I'm going to let you into a little secret now...

You know you were on my site, as well as Colly (my only two guest authors, from here I had planned to have more, but sadly that site kind of fell by the wayside, when I began looking into teacher training and so on), well, a couple of your Arlan Terlo series were already on there when I approached Colly about having one of her stories on my site. She used to embarrass me and rave about me being such a good erotic horror author, and she'd written an erotic horror, which she wanted me to look over and edit (a massive honour, I have to say). Anyway, it was a quite brilliant story, and I asked her if she'd be a guest author on my site, and allow me to have that particular story on there - she was quite taken aback by me asking her. I asked why, and she said that her erotic horror was nowhere near as good as mine (which I laughed at), and then she said that she knew you were already a guest author on my site and that, "I'm nowhere near the standard of Alex!".

I told her she was being silly. I said that you were both authors I admired, and it would be a huge privilege to have you both on there. She finally agreed, thank goodness.

Anyway, I just thought you'd like to know. Colly held you in very high esteem, not only as an author, but as a person, too, and I'm certain she wouldn't mind me telling you.

I'm looking to get Psyche Erotica back up, btw - I'd been planning to anyway, but it's very important to me now to do so.
