The recent border clash of the two countries saw that soldiers of both sides did not use any firearms but took to rocks and sticks, that was the real cold war. It is reported 3 Indian officers were killed and 11 injured in the real fist-fight with rock throwing, but later China's social media said 17 more Indian military men died of coldness due to shortage of warm clothing in that highly cold area of Tibet Plateau.

It looks very funny. Why didn't they resort to modern weapons?

Because by mutual agreement none of the border guards carry firearms.

Local media reported the men were beaten to death with clubs in direct hand to hand combat.

If firearms had been used, artillery would probably have followed soon afterwards and a major conflict would be almost inevitable.

But you know, in the earlier conflict between Pakistan and India, the Pakistani fighter plane downed the Indian one, and the total situation was still under control, so there should not be any worry about that.

That looks very like the street fight by mafia for snatching drugs or women. We do not the number of casualties of the Chinese side, some commentators said China is considering not to disclose the number for saving the face of Indian prime minister Modi. After all, China and India are the members of BRICS, "Group of Golden Brick" as known in Chinese version.
