COCKTAILS Anybody?

I’ll have a Mimosa.

An ideal Sunday cocktail. The Don and Betty Draper kind.

I’ve been on a Mad Men tangent lately.

My favorite salad.

Okay... ‘fess up, Lit.

How many Luxardo cherries do you use/eat when you make an OF, and do you use the juice?

I do use some juice. It's virtually unavoidable to use some given the consistency but I will spoon a cherry out for muddling and let the teaspoon puddle some juice. I use 1 cherry to muddle and then once the drink is made, I'll add another as a garnish and rinse off the spoon in the drink before giving it a little shake.

Raspberry Margarita

I originally made Strawberry Margaritas, but I spilled my blender after a cup.

Raspberry is really good, but the strawberries were better.

I just adapt

Tonight's cocktails? Fancy-ass bourbon beyond my pay-grade and some excellent beer.

Two. Plus one or two orange segments depending on size. I put them in a pint glass with a little splash of soda water which acts like a lube when you muddle them up. I muddle, then add sweetener - simple or maple syrup, bitters and liquor. Add Ice, put a Boston shaker over the pint glass and shake.

I think the proper way is then to strain into the drink glass, over ice, and add fresh cherry and orange garnish. But I usually just pour the shaken mixture into my glass and top with a little more soda and drink.

I don't have a bar in my home. I wish I did. So I just keep my sipping whiskies in some old wooden beer crates in my basement and bring them out when friends come over to drink with me. There's a hutch in the kitchen and I put them out and we help ourselves. I had a friend over last weekend and took a pic.

Blanton's. Excellent choice. Looks like AF is trying to hide it for himself, though - all the way in the corner there... :)

Vodka and lemonade tonight. Cheers!

Those are great drinks anytime. As an evening cocktail, I double the quantity of the first three ingredients and serve it in a Collins glass.

Make it with soda instead of sparkling wine and it's called a Tom Collins.

I like gin, but strangely enough I prefer a vodka Collins if I'm having one.

I’ve only tried it once. It was memorable. It’s good to have generous friends.

I have sampled the
10 (reasonably priced at a bar in Memphis)
15 and 23 (generous friends).

They are very good bourbons and while the 23 yr old smelled like heaven, I can't say it was the best bourbon I ever tasted. For the price, I think it should be. I enter a lottery every year to win a bottle where the profit goes to a local children's charity. That's the only way Pappy will ever grace my bar. I think the legend (and I know the price) have grown well beyond the bourbon.

I could get a lot of good rum for the cost of a bottle of that...
