COCKTAILS Anybody?

Total Wine.

I’ll cop to it.
We don’t have booze in grocery stores here. If there’s a bottle of wine I want that I know TW has, I’ll try there first. It’s usually at least 3-10$ cheaper a bottle.
When you are buying 6 bottles of wine, it adds up.

Like I said, I want to support the small business owners as much as possible. I will usually get one or 2 nicer bottles there.
It’s a conundrum.

Same with sex shops. You don’t want them to go out of business, but the same vibrator is online for half the price. What’s a girl to do?

Fuck dude, I am so lazy. Buy all my wine at the grocery store. Every week they usually have something above average Buy One Get One. Plus they have their own liquor next door. Rarely buy beer as all that is free from work.

Hard to hate on TW. Insane selection plus yes good prices. We have ABC here too which aint too shabby.

And have not been in a sex shop in probably 20 years.

I'm sitting here idly trying to decide if I love bourbon neat/with one cube because I love the taste or because I'm too lazy to make a proper cocktail.

Hmmm

The girls who work there are usually so nice, but it’s just way too expensive.

I was at TW the other day and I got anchovy filled olives.
I’m a little scared.

I'm having a couple friends over for dinner. I have to go stuff some with blue cheese right now. I bought these REALLY big ones at Sams - stuffed with jalapeño and garlic. Remove the jalapeño and garlic, then stuff with Blue cheese. You get a little residual of the jalapeño and garlic - it's been working nicely.

No anchovy for me - allergic

I used regular Chilli Powder, because I couldn't find Chipotle Chilli

No offense but the color is kinda a turnoff. And why use Anejo for a Marg? If you want a spicey Marg just slice up some jalepeno or serano into your regular Marg and shake.

I already have Jalepeno infused tequila in the fridge, it's nothing new

I wanted to use my Don Julio Anejo, that I neglected

Brown is beautiful to me
And my beautiful stem
LMAO

Last night I made an Aquavit cocktail that came out well.

2 Oz Linnie Aquavit
1 Oz Lemon juice
.5 Oz Cointreau
.5 Oz Maple syrup

Shaken and served up.

I wanted to make something using the base liquor and didn't have the ingredients for my usual Aquavit cocktails, it was well balanced.

On tonight's menu

Bourbon Crushes
2oz bourbon
1oz Cointreau
A few dashes orange bitters
3oz orange juice
1.5oz ginger ale
Garnish with an Orange and serve over crushed ice

Sounds like a good summer cooler. An orangy take on a whiskey sour :)

Basics?

I'm wanting to try my hand at making more cocktails but I don't have much on hand as far as tools or ingredients. What do you fine folks, who seem to have more experience than me, think of as the basics?

Get this book. It has all the classics in it, sorted by base liquors. It also discusses barware, glassware and liquor. I got it about 20 years ago and it started me on proper mixology. I have bought or been given many other cocktail books by friends and family, but this is the single most useful book on cocktails I have.

Edit: I'd also like to add that this book has a great binding and lays flat and open to your page on the countertop.
