Clutter

Did that trigger anyone else’s claustrophobia? *gasping* As soon as I can breathe, I’ll try to think of something clever to say…

Hamstering. I don't know the actual scientific term, but it's a mental illness. Often related to agoraphobia.

Oh, I feel much better now! My few stagnant piles of stuff in corners is NOTHING compared to that woman's house.

It happens a lot in the midwest (US) for some reason. Must be the low, gray skies and no neighbors all winter, at least in the farm regions.

In Hills Iowa (near where I went to grad school) there was a story about the Stemm sisters, who lived alone on a farm. Their father (ala Faulkner) hadn't let them date, even escorted, as teens and they had stayed indoors much of the rest of their lives.

Hills, like many farm towns, prides itself on being friendly. So each week the mailman picked up a small envelope with money in it from their mailbox, along with a list, and he dropped it off at the store where the order was filled, the mailman picked it back up and left it, along with change, next to the Stemm Sister's mailbox.

Finally, the mailman found no grocery order on a week ... and then for several weeks after. He notified the sheriff who went and tried to get in. The halls and rooms were so full of boxes of paper (newspaper, old mail, flyers, etc.) that they needed to move stuff onto the porch before they could really get through. In the downstairs bedroom they found the skeleton of one of the sisters and the mostly decayed body of the second one.

Legend has it that they were found in the same bed together, though I have no idea if that was supposed to have some homosexual incest connotation or simply reflected the fact that all of the other rooms of the house were so full of crap no one could get in.

I heard the story from the sheriff in the bar one afternoon in Hills. Obviously I have no idea if it's true -- it would also be likely farm folk would pull the leg of a university kid.

so you're telling me that if I don't pick up in here soon- some idiot's going to start blasting my business all over the internet?

Possibly one of my children?-- Good Grief.

I didn't mean to kill the thread:)

What makes some people (like me) like that, I wonder?
