A truth.

Some people, whether we call it cowardice (a very confrontational term) or shyness or social anxiety or sheer niceness (as that can be a factor in at least one or two I'm aware of), simply don't feel comfortable criticizing others. Some feel so uncomfortable about doing so with particular others that they'd rather just avoid all confrontation about it.

This happens.

I can think of a few people, here on the boards, regarding me that would rather make comments around me, even about me, but won't speak to me. They're socially, and confrontationally, not particularly confidant--or feel as though it would be harrassing or frustrating to make me angry (though I don't much often ever get angry).

I suppose we can label it cowardice--but I think that's not accurate for all cases. If you feel like you're going to catch an ocean of shit from someone, be berated and belittled or verbally brow-beaten for having an opinion, it isn't easy directly expressing that. And that you have conversations about it with people more conversationally accomodating isn't a sin, nor a crime.

I'd just like to make sure we're not blanketedly generalizing, here. I, personally, don't think its always a matter of cowardice for those that are afraid of the confrontation. I don't think that's being particularly fair, its too broad and highly judgemental.

If we're going to play fast and loose and general with the term "cowardice", then passive aggressive commentary is cowardice, running is cowardice, and indirection is cowardice.

(I don't believe any of those are necessarily true, but "when in Rome")

Sometimes it is more of a frustration issue. A frustration due to countless arguing threads that have gone nowhere except into insults and harsh feelings.

I do have a few people on ignore because of that and other abusive things. In that situation, it makes it difficult to read or respond to posts. Thus some might get the feeling of being "talked around."

You're welcome. I know we've erm, exchanged words on occasion, but I wasn't glad to see you go. You add flavour to the place. *L*

(and thank you *blush* it's lovely that people are noticing it :) )

If I've untangled your sentences accurately, I have to agree.
And on that topic;
Sometimes, it's not about the target at all. We have members here who are for whatever reason, profoundly shy, or gunshy. Seems weird to me too-- The internet is the safest way to disagree, IMO. But, there it is and we have to respect that...

And we have members here who are not that facile with words. They may not be able to express why they are upset. So their complaints come out as "trashing." Maybe?
I agree.
