“Preacher…” she called out to the barren snow covered mountains, “We all love you….I love you….we all thank you…goodbye….”

~~~
All movies have script writers, and writer's before that...and of course the actor/actress that delivers the written lines...
anyone remember the film and how you responded to those lines?
I do...
my 'writerly' threads for the month....:)
Pale Rider. Great movie, one of Eastwood's best.
"I do like a good, stout piece of hickory." ;)
Don't remember exactly if I felt anything specific about Megan's last words in the film (I don't remember the actress' name, but I do remember the character), but the overall feeling from the movie was one of second chances against the backdrop of resolute determinism. Preacher's actions all seemed choreographed, as if he knew exactly what needed to be done to get to the desired outcome, but in a way that he himself did not fully understand or agree with.
But I suppose, if you've been killed once and allowed to return to exact your revenge, you just might feel somewhat obligated to follow the aims of the Powers That Be . . . .
Hi, Slyc, & thanx again...in my youth, I was taught that only an axe with a 'Hickory' handle was worth owning...:)
Being a confessed sentimental slob who tears up at the drop of a fair young maiden's distress, I had an emotional response to the very young girl with the big brown eyes who had been saved, then spared by the "Preacher", and then who adored and desired him and wished to show her gratitude. The kind of syrupy stuff I write...
I didn't follow the credits to see if Eastwood directed this one, as he has many he has starred in, but it would not surprise me, he has a soft and romantic approach to his work on all levels.
Good all over you...:)
Ah...channel 212...music back...has an instrumental intro to a song I know, ah, there it is, "Lil Darlin', "Here comes the Sun" it be givin' me shivers....
I think Pale Rider still falls under the derogatory 'Spaghetti Western' label, being directed by Sergio Leone, but that late in the game (I think the movie came out in the early 80s) it may have been Eastwood who directed it.
Every movie strives for that last, memorable line. Not too many deliver. A couple of my favorites include:
"I've already got a job." -- Paden (Kevin Kline), Silverado.
"You know anyone who wants to buy a bar?" -- Danny (Billy Crystal), Running Scared.
"I have to go now. I'm having an old friend for dinner." -- Hannibal Lecter (Sir Anthony Hopkins), Silence of the Lambs.
I must confess..I have not seen any of the films you referenced...but you did spur my interest by speculating, 'Spaghetti Westerns',:
Starring: Clint Eastwood, Michael Moriarty, Carrie Snodgress, Christopher Penn, Richard Dysart
Directed by: Clint Eastwood
Produced by: Fritz Manes, Clint Eastwood, David Valdes
Sighs...haven't seem enough of Carrie Snodgress (grass?) to recognize if she played the girl...guess I gotta go search again....
Carrie Snodgrass was the older woman, who eventually ended up with Michael Moriarty's character. Megan was . . . someone else. :p
Ah, hell. Just google it!
I must hie me to bed. G'night, Ami.
ETA: Go out and rent Silverado. It's a pretty good western. Kevin Kline steals the show, but there are some good moments had by Kevin Costner, Scott Glen, and Danny Glover.
