The IAGS has been actively recruiting new members:do you have proof that they 'refused' to put it up for debate, as in they took a deliberately anti-position on debating, or was there no debate for other, normal, even procedural reasons? The woman who stated the leaders didn't do things the way they usually do, to bolster their own agendas, may be one of the few (potentially) who didn't agree with the resolution for their own reasons.
However, having said that, yes, you are right that I misunderstood the size of numbers who actually voted (mistakenly accepting that the quoted 86% was of the total membership and not just of those from a much smaller group who voted, but I have yet to see the evidence about the actual percentage of the 500 who DO support/resist the resolution.
"The association has recently expanded its membership and there are little qualifications to become a member. The association had been mostly made up of scholars, but now includes figures like activists and artists."
The vote says nothing about whether there's a genocide in Gaza. If there actually was, why the need for such shenanigans?
