Close all the threads...

I was amused by JBJ and LC until they posted utter lies about me. It's been iggy ever since. No loss. I do catch brief glimpses of them in quotes but see no reason to alter my evaluation. Feh.

Another thread closed. Guess it was getting too real. ;)

Explicitly discussing how one might cheat in Lit contests is not appropriate here. This is the Author's Hangout, not Cheater Corner. ;)

Pilot,

You came to the wrong conclusion. I answered your contention just as Laurel closed the "voting blocks" thread.

I am not at all afraid of getting 1- bombed or kept out of winning contests by the cabin group or any other. I'm small potatoes. My highest voted-on story has under 100 votes. I'm no threat to anyone in contests or for fame and glory, and no one in their right mind would waste their time worrying about me. I get bombed like everyone else by the usual random trolls, or by who knows who? But I have no evidence anyone in that group is after me.

The only person who cares to 1- or 2-bomb me is probably JBJ because he thinks I write crappy poetry. LOL - he could well be right.

That was a minor conclusion. The major reveal is in the insidious activity this group is engaged in on Literotica. (By the way, your edit of post #111 on that thread was futile. The quite revealing erased original post is quoted in #112).

The cabin group--a nice title for them. Might use that. I do wonder if LC was split from them before or after the cabin.

I don't think JBJ really takes the time/effort to vote on anything--even (probably especially) when he says he has.

I haven't posted on how explicit cheating can be done. I'm a technical dunce and don't have a clue on what could be done that wouldn't be swept. (I did note that the sweeping often comes too late for sweepable voting not to have the cheat voter's desired effect.)

So, I don't know why you are quoting me for your statement. I was pursuing something far more insidious on that thread. And in that vein, I'm quite happy to see the thread frozen at the "just process and think about that" point.

I am right.

I am right.

What a dick!

anyway ... as far as 1 bombs go, I did notice that every time my story hit 4.70 for the longest time I got 1 bombed ... pissed me off ... then I guess a sweep happened and it went to 4.74 and now a steady 4.71 ...

I wrote an extended penthouse letter ... pure porn ... I'm trying out different styles just to try them ...

Maybe because I've only got 2 stories, but it was kind of horrible to realize I got hit with a 1 or 2 just for the sake of it ... makes me want to urge for email feedback or comments .... not so much the voting. I think though as I post more stories, that worry will about rating will dwindle compared to views/comments/feedback.

Edit: How does one get an Editors Letter?

I didn't mean to erase anything, actually, and I'm glad the record is still there.

I was thinking of his book reviews and links to articles about writing and articles about authors. He seems to be one of the few people here willing to post about his interests in reading and writing. Judging from some of his posts, his knowledge of writing doesn't come from "10 minutes spend on the AH", it comes from reading more books than most of us will ever read in a lifetime, and reading books about writing and writers, and from the actual writing he was doing for a living - at least according to a recent post.

BTW, he has dinged me in the past, and I'm sure he'll ding me in the future. I don't take it personally. It's just a game for him - entertainment - just like being the AH hall monitor and grammar/Chicago Manual of Style cop is entertainment for you. You both bring knowledge to the AH, and that's what we're here for - or at least, that's what we're supposed to be here for. :)

A man who's known me since 1959 says I manipulate people better than anyone. He also says I tune in to people about two weeks ahead of anyone else. Takes me about 15 minutes to get a sense of anyone. Some can dance or sing, I get your number and guide you to a better place...usually far far away from me.

Writing? I know squat about writing. What I know are people. People are hooked by car wrecks and flat tires and short skirts and dog fights and the rest. Traffic backs up five miles when someone has a flat tire. People wanna look at it. So begin a story with a flat tire or Armaggeddon or David and Goliath. Make it something readers know matters. Our local op-ed page manager lost her job when she filled the Sunday paper with teen prom gown angst and geezer reunions with people they knew 50 years ago back in Indiana. Then you detail how come baseball, mother hood, and apple pie are in peril from Muslim Civil War re-enactors, then show how Gay mimes save the day. And keep it simple. Most readers are dum as perfessers.

Yep, I agree that the thread was closed because of the "how to" discussion. Not what I was a part of, though, as I'm clueless on how these things are done. I just don't doubt that they are done.

Saved for posterity, again.

This guy is kind of unbelievable. I mean, this has somehow turned into the 'let's lovingly moisten JBJ's ass with our tongues' variety hour, but at least the other brown-nosers aren't calling you a humorless cunt.

Funny how everyone who thinks he's funny admits to being a white dude, tho.

Write a REALLY GOOD story; one that tells a tale and tells it well.
The sex is sometimes less important that the 'feelings' and the emotions generated in the readers mind.

My only E story has barely any sex. The main character watching a blowjob is as close as it comes.

There's a difference between acknowledging clever writing and brown-nosing. If you haven't figured out the fact that I like JBJ's writing but dislike his troll persona, you're not paying attention.

I do agree with JBJ on at least one point - that most of the top list stories here are the literary equivalent of brown-nosing the lowest common denominator one-handed readers, but to each his own. Personally, I prefer the Green E stories, especially the ones that don't get a Red H. I know JBJ has at least one Green E under one of his alts. PM me when you get one, C2BK, and I'll read it, even though I'm not into GM.

It's uplifting that JBJ respects the Green E enough to lie about having one, DZ (uplifting for me, as I have eleven of them), but he doesn't have one under his account name and until he proves he has one under an alt (which would be easy to do--have the alt acknowledge it and then go to another alt), he doesn't have one and you've been bamboozled, just as he wants you to be. ;)

They named themselves the cabin-the full name is derived from the name of a story by their 'king' (I did mention he makes you look humble, right?)

It originated during Camp Nano where you could create a 'cabin' for your writing group-and we all had a blast.

Patientlee then decided why not create one permanently? I was invited when it started end of November last year and joined a couple weeks later, I remember because I was hanging around the NIH climbing the walls wondering when my wife was going to come out of a coma and was looking for a distraction other than here where everything was a fight.

I exited right near the end of the V-day contest after I was told I couldn't critique an author there who had just picked apart a couple of other authors stories-and both authors were the type very unsure of their writing at the time-so I returned the favor-oh, and one guess as to who over there is beyond the criticism of a mere mortal hack like me?

I also saw it shifting from hey, let's hang out in a quieter cozier environment to Caligula in forum form and people acting like high school kids just discovering sex.

That was also the time the contest obsession started with the first threads on all the things Laurel would prefer not to be discussed here.

To each their own, but I didn't need to be part of an authors version of adult friend finder nor be told no one can say "hey, know what? You shouldn't be talking" and I don't need support on my stories here, I do fine on my own. my 'numbers' will attest to that.

One author there had won 4 or so contests in ten years here. They have won two this year and will be eligible(and I am sure will skip Halloween, but be back for winter) to get a third.

Now I wonder at that point if anything will be said when the same person places 3 times in a year. I m thinking not.

So whether you choose to believe me or not, is up to you, but I was out of there before the real contest games began and when I saw who won April Fools and how they did it- with all the right there for anyone to see lobbying and cheerleading- I made a remark about a "group" in a feedback thread and thy came out and outed themselves.

I never named a name, they all did it.

And my gut is one/several complained they were being called out and this new rule is a result and it rewards them.

I think its easier for the site to give them a pass than to try to follow them around and waste time focusing on all their antic with a business to run, so they benefit by the age old "they're not worth it" mantra.

One of them has placed in each contest this year, no coincidence I am sure. They will continue to do so. People's options are deal with it, or stop entering to avoid the gamesmanship.

Edited to add I don't think its coincidence none of them have posted in this thread. They are too busy snickering.

Well, yes, but outside of all of that, what Patientlee posted resonates. You were good with it (she posted "benefited from it") until something happened (you found you weren't going to be king of the walk?), and then it all fell apart--at least where you are concerned.

I'm just glad it fell apart (other than the manipulation of the contests--which I can personally negate just by not entering them anymore) and that Laurel augmented a new rule. If we keep to that rule here on the forum, it will be fine with me--the initiators from the past just will do less and milder initiation, negating response. (Which means this thread jolly well can fade away too).
