Freedom of speech

Why is it that the mention of "politics" elicits sarcasm and dismissal and "humor?" Thanks for the heads up, SD, I'll go check it out.

Because several years ago, politics had turned the AH into a cesspool of bitter sniping, which chased off some of our best authors and brightest personalities. Ever since a forum specifically for it was created, we enjoy our peace from politics here.

Some time ago, out of curiosity, I ventured into the Politics Board to read some hot topics. The opinionated and often hurtful and cruel garbage that some people can spill there, regardless of the side, is too triggering for a normal person not to respond. And responding is just bad.

In general, I can't imagine a worse way to waste time than to argue about politics with random people over the internet. At least in the AH, we share a certain familiarity, and people try to be polite mostly. But we still get to hear sanctimonious preaching and fired-up activism occasionally that ends with ad hominems.

Yeah, but dissing a cross post that alerts us to a thread that might interest some? Seems like an offshoot of bitterness.

That's how little many of us want even the slightest whiff of politics here. There's a place for it. Take it there.

I was here through the Bush years, and the Obama transition, and the beginning of Trump. I know how bad it gets, and how quickly. This place becomes little more than the political forum lite in a heartbeat if that's allowed to fester, and one peek in there is all most people need to see to know they don't want any part of it.

Is this the right room for an argument?

I don't think it's the mention of politics, per se, but specifically in reference to the culture of Lit's Politics forum.

I've found it to be much broader than just Literotica. It's pretty difficult for people with different political views to have civil, intelligent discussions on the Internet.

I wasn't trying to stir anything up here; just to point out that a thread started in the other forum that some might be interested in. I agree with what AwkwardlySet wrote, which was why I had hoped that some here, who've weighed in on related topics, would poke in on the discussion over there. A few have.
