Does anyone else feel like the Cleveland Ohio incident this week has put a damper on their BDSM fantasies?

What do kidnaping and rape of unwilling victims have to do with BDSM fantasies? "Normal" BDSMers consider those to be crimes, not the consensual activities in which they are interested.

Obviously kidnapping and rape have something to do with BDSM fantasies, because comment threads with this topic appeared simultaneously everywhere BDSM is discussed online.

BDSM is what we do instead of kidnap and rape, because we are civilized men with a knowledge of right and wrong.

Comment threads with this topic appeared everywhere BDSM is discussed online, possibly because this idiot posted them everywhere he could access, and probably because *other* idiots who have no knowledge of real-life BDSMers and their practices read "50 Shades" and other stupid shit and thought they had something to do with what civilized and intelligent BDSMers actually *do* in life, and posted similar threads.

If one-tenth of these morons would bother to actually LEARN something about our culture, they'd be much better educated, and *we* wouldn't have to be concerned about over-reaction from the public, the cops, prosecutors and courts.

Yes. It's such a common story line and now in the reluctance/non consent area of our libraries, but now it's like ...eh. If I try to read anything like those, all I can think of is those women in Cleveland and how awful their lives were. :(

Come on now...aren't you expecting quite a bit from these people? After all, you did call them morons.

You know everybody assumes BDSM is full of non-consensual and forced sex, because submissives are required to um...submit. That's why losers and assholes contact submissive women on this site and others, acting like educated doms and masters. Then, they get pissed and say the submissives aren't true submissives, because they don't bow to the asshole's demands.

I think some of these idiots really think this is true, because it happens way too much to be just a few idiots stepping out of the sandbox to get some freebee nooky.

Of course we haven't been told a lot of the story, but there were three women at first, and then a fourth later. You'd think they could have ganged up on him.

I know, he was probably smarter than he looked.

Personally, it hasn't bothered me any. All of my women friends come to me and ask to be tied up and used. It's just my devious magnetism, I guess. Oh, and maybe a little word of mouth advertising.

I've been following the story, and there were three women and a child. He is being charged with kidnapping of Amanda's child, too.

Also, they were kept in separate rooms.

I know, I know. the fourth woman was the child. Like I said, I guess he was smarter than he looks. If you ask me, he looks pretty stupid.

I think it would be nice to give each woman a baseball bat and let them cut loose on him. That would be better than the death penalty.

Amen.

why would it? The guy is a nutter unless you are the type of person who is kidnapping women and holding them against their will in your basement then i dont see why it would affect your way of life. just because someone lives that lifestyle and some sicko gives it a bad press doesnt make it wrong he is just a bad apple..

C'mon guys. It's really very easy to make the jump here psychologically, we're only human. This news effected master tremendously a few days after it came out. To begin with, he has all women in his family, and specifically a sister who was in an abusive relationship for years. To think that in our lifestyle and play we do (albeit consensually) some of the things this sick man was doing to these poor girls for years...well it didn't make him feel so great about how he "treats me sometimes." Obviously the news has nothing to do with BDSM or with our relationship, but he dropped pretty hard. It may not be rational but it happens, and I did my best to reassure and console him. It's hard not to think of all the people who suffer through such abuse after hearing news like that.

No not at all, but maybe I am strange.

Most of us use knives in our everyday life, but I don't feel strange for using one because of what Jack the Ripper did. I believe that most people are capable of doing bad things, but does that mean me being human is an issue.

Speak of your psychological or as I like to call it these days popular social beliefs. I tend to try and avoid the common stupidity out there.

Not just you. When I'm full of anger about RL abuse like this, sometimes it's difficult to get back into the headspace where I can be comfortable topping.

If we're having a philosophical conversation about ethics, the "consensual" puts BDSM poles apart from RL kidnapping. But sometimes the associations are hard to shake. It's like looking at the swastika on my old copy of "The Jungle Book": intellectually I know it's an ancient Hindu symbol and those books were printed decades before the Nazis co-opted it, but it still has a lot of emotional baggage.

(And I'm not saying that anybody else should be uncomfortable about this, it's just my personal reaction.)

The OP asked if it put a damper on FANTASIES. Do I need to refresh you all on what a fantasy is? No one asked if it's put a damper on your BDSM life or what you do in real life, but on FANTASIES, which are often darker than anything we'd do in real life. Don't BS me and tell me that no one here has dark fantasies - I've been here quite awhile and I know it's BS. One of the most common fantasies women have involves rape - it doesn't mean they want to be raped. Just the same, for a lot of subs, there is fantasies of being kidnapped and held against his or her own will. And yes, this sort of things puts a damper on that FANTASY of mine. I know it's temporary, as the story of Jaycee Dugard had the same effect on my fantasies, but it does put a damper on it.
