Claymore and Dagger Pt.2

“Maybe I’ll let him convince me.” Fiona said with a slight smile to Taqu’un. “He can be very charming when he wants to be.”

"Yes he can. Your stone-faced lawman is quite the charmer to the ladies in this family in particular. He can be very sweet, but like some of his uncles, he tends not to trust men he doesn't know. You just make sure you keep him in check." Taqu'un rose with a smile. "And keep an eye on your Will. He's been nothing but a gentleman, but I'm worried Leon is planning his demise." With a chuckle, he stepped away.

Fiona gave that a slight smile as she turned her attentions back to the dancing. When Sam came to take a break, she kissed his cheek and chuckled. “I hope you wear yourself out before you remember my dance.”

"I've been thinkin' about it th'whole time," Sam smirked lightly as he sat down. "I won' forget."

“I wouldn’t expect anything less from you.” Fiona said as he gave her that handsome smile. “Did you notice the bear on my crown? They made it just for you.”

“I do admit that I bought you a gift for today. I know you told me not to, but there is something that I felt you would want to keep in order to preserve your sanity. Remind me when we’re back in our rooms this evening and I’ll Give it to you.” Fiona said as she reached out and touched his cheek. “I’m proud of you, love. I truly am.”

Sam smiled gently, leaning over to kiss her once more. He didn't mind in front of people he knew and trusted. "I love you," was his simple response. He'd been making it a point to tell her more often.

“Look at that. You didn’t die.” Fiona teased with a soft smile as Sam whispered that he loved her. “Those words never hurt anyone.”

"I never said they did. I'm jus' naturally heartless," Sam rolled his eyes with a smile as she teased him. "You only dance with me once, I only tell you once," he challenged.

“You would really deny your wife the pleasure of hearing a simple expression of your undying love because she won’t dance with you? You are heartless.” Fiona teased him back as he threw down that gauntlet.

“Tell me one more time and I’ll let you have another dance.” She said softly, giving him a grin as their little negotiation continued.

"I'll think about it," Sam answered in a non-committal tone, much like she once had in in stubbornness.

"I already did once," Sam kept the game going for a moment longer before he leaned over to steal another kiss. "I love you," he murmured.

“And I love you.” Fiona murmured back, returning his kiss with a smile as she finally let him pull her out onto the dance floor. “The things I have to do for you.”

"I know. It's such a bother to enjoy yourself," Sam swept her easily out to the cleared dance area. They'd only danced together a handful of times, but Sam had taught Fiona a simple foundation that they now worked from. It was beginning to feel smooth, even graceful.

FIona was always amazed at how graceful Sam was. He held her firmly in his arms, never letting her falter as they began the dance on empty dance floor that he had been promised. Even though he had taught her a few things in their spare time, she hardly had to do anything except let him take the lead.

Sam was right at home on the dancefloor, not minding who watched or anything going on around them. As the song drew to an end, Sam stole a kiss from Fiona and smiled down at her. He was in his element. Even with the stress of their situation, the war, and their unsure future, he found solace in his time with her sharing one of his favorite things.

“You might be the most charming man I’ve ever met.” Fiona said softly as Sam stared down at her with that handsome and easy grin.

“Do you know how many men have tried and failed to get me to dance? All it takes is a few sweet words and a smile from you and I’m willing to let you sweep me across the dance floor.” Fiona said as he escorted her back to their seats.

"I 'ave leverage tha' they didn't, though," Sam explained simply, pausing as a few young cousins went scampering by, having forgotten their parents' orders to keep their nice clothes clean and mind their manners.

"You do, I suppose." Fiona said as he paused to watch the children run past, the sound of laughter filling the keep after such a long time of darkness with the war. "Let's go greet the people of Inverness. We can come back in time for another dance. I'm sure that they would enjoy seeing you out and about among them in a role other than General."
