Claymore and Dagger Pt.2

Fiona had a smile on her face that nothing could take away. She was always amazed by this family and the way that they accepted her and the rest of her family without hesitation. It didn’t matter how she had struggled as a child or how terrible of a person that her father had been, they simply saw the good deeds that they had all done since then.

After she undressed and safely stowed away her wedding gown, she turned towards Sam to watch him for a moment. She also couldn’t believe that this man, this hard, unyielding man, was her husband. He made her happy, tended to her needs, and loved her abundantly. How she had found him and gotten to that moment, she would never know.

“We have one more person we need to go see.” Fiona said softly. “Your Gran would tan your hide if we didn’t go sometime soon.”

"We will, tomorrow. Then we'll have to get back to work soon. Might even go out to the Rus before late winter an' see how Monomakh is doing on his end, since he's got his own front in the war. Maybe take a day there fer ourselves too."

“That’s a long trip away from Inverness, Sam.” Fiona said, surprised that he would suggest that. “Not that I’d be opposed to it, but are you sure you want to be got that long?”

"It won't be terribly long with the dragons. But I have some things I want to look into there... And I have reason t'believe Barbarossa might be watchin' Monomakh a little too closely. I'd like t'get an idea of both fronts before Barbarossa can attack th'English Channel in spring."

"So, you claim to want to whisk me away for a short visit to the Rus, but you really want to check out the battle lines?" Fiona teased her husband, crossing her arms over her thick robe and raising an eyebrow at him. "What kind of a man did I marry? I thought Samuel Ghis was reformed of his overworking ways."

Fiona knew that Sam's mind was never far away from his duties. He tired to put her first, but there were times when he simply couldn't. She would never get too angry with him over that.

"If you can give me two days together, one here in Inverness and one there, I'll let us go." Fiona said softly, negotiating with him over their short honeymoon.
