Claymore and Dagger Pt.2

“You’re loosening up and they don’t know what to make of it.” Fiona said softly as they walked through town hand in hand, neither in any hurry to get to her cabin. “I admit that I enjoy this side of you, Sam.”

"Well, I figure after my Da, th' people would appreciate another approachable king," Sam muttered. He always seemed to put everything down to duty or common good.

“You can be whatever king you wish to be, Sam. If you want to be formal, they will accept that. If you want to relax and let your hair grow long, they would accept that too.” Fiona said softly, accepting him in any way that he needed.

"I don' know about tha'," he muttered, running a hand back through his short hair. He paused by a stall to buy them each lunch and a pastry to take to Fiona's home.

“Sam, you know I will love you no matter what you do. There is very little you could ever do to make me not adore you.” Fiona said softly as he bought them both lunch and a pastry to share.

Sam's answer was to draw her closer against his side, not willing to do much more in public though he'd no doubt offer more when they were alone.

When they arrived at her little cabin, Sam was glad to settle on the sofa with Fiona for a quiet lunch and afternoon.

Fiona was content to sit against Sam’s side, enjoying heir meal before she relaxed into a doze. She sighed as she took in his scent, her fox content with the moment. She was much more the wild animal than she cared to admit.

“Do you really want me to be your queen? In all honesty.” She asked softly, knowing that he had some reservations about becoming king in the first place.

"I want you by my side... But havin' a crown is really up t'you. It'd give you th' power t'help th'people more... An' me."

“You’ll be crowned before we’re married. I wanted to make sure that you still wanted all of this.” Fiona said softly. “You have every right to say that you don’t want me as your queen.”

FIona looked up at him, a small smile curling her lips as he admitted that he did want her as his queen. “Say it again.”

Sam met her gaze for a long moment before murmuring once more, "I want you t'be my queen."

A happy smile was on her lips as she leaned in and kissed him. She let out a soft sigh, her arms moving to wrap around his broad shoulders. She adored him and to finally hear the words made her heart melt in so many unexpected ways.

Sam quietly drew her closer, his hands resting on her waist. He laid his head against her own, contemplating the path he'd just cemented for them. "... Do you still want t'wait t'be married? It's up to you."

“I want my family here.” Fiona said after thinking about it for a moment. “I want them to have a happy moment in a place of sadness. I would marry you now, but I feel like this is so much bigger than the both of us.”

"Then when I'm crowned, I'll announce you as Consort until th' wedding," Sam nodded. It would ensure that she was seen as his partner on the throne, but it would also give her more time prior to being crowned to learn the ropes.

“I suppose I will graciously take any title you wish to give me instead of arguing with you.” Fiona said with a small smile and chuckle.

"So be it then," Sam nodded, letting himself slide down and lay back on the sofa with a long exhale as he stared up at the ceiling. "... Won' be long now."

“It will change a lot to things but I think you’re ready for the challenge. And your brothers and sisters will help you along with your Ma and Da. You won’t have to do anything alone.” Fiona said softly as he seemed resigned to a life unlike what he was used to.

"... 'King' jus' doesn' sound like it fits in front of my name. Then again 'Prince' never fit either..." He laid an arm across his eyes, blocking out the light for a while. "... It's gonna be rough going fer a while."

“King Samuel has a nice ring to it.” Fiona said as he tried to block out the world around him. “I refuse to call you that, but it doesn’t sound terrible.”

She was trying to cheer him up, to take his mind off the things that were bothering him.

"Wonder if I could 'ave 'em call me somethin' else... Or not at all," he sighed. He was rather insecure about the whole idea of being the royal family member in charge. He glanced out from under his arm to Fiona, welcoming her to lay down with him.

“Emperor? Chieftain? Incredible lover?” She asked as he peeked at her and she finally settled down at his side.

"Tha' wouldn't win me a lot o' friends." Sam wrapped his free arm around her and fell still.

“No, but I could finally brag to people about how wonderful you are when you’re not trying to be so serious.” Fiona said softly as his broad arm wrapped around her, his hand unconsciously cupping her tattoo. “She loves you too.”
